Calling the country’s workers “the builders of India”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said their future is in jeopardy under the Narendra Modi government and assured that he will ensure they get full rights and respect.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha made these comments in a Hindi message on X, in which he shared a video of his recent meeting with daily wage workers at Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar in Delhi, in which he listened to their problems.

I won’t believe it but I will when I have my own home I will never let you down and I will never let you down when you don’t see me anymore

“In the Narendra Modi government, the ‘builders of India’ are facing terrible hardships,” Gandhi wrote in his message.
The day laborers are forced to run the household for four days on one day’s wages, he said.
They have no savings and are living on the burden of paying interest, he added.
“I had the opportunity to meet street vendors and daily wage earners in GTB Nagar and learn about their struggles,” Gandhi said.
“The future of the families of those who are building the ‘India of the future’ is in danger. I will ensure that the hardworking workers of India get their full rights, security and respect – that is my resolve,” Gandhi asserted.
After meeting the daily wage workers on Thursday, Gandhi said it is his life’s mission to give full rights and respect to those who do manual labour.
The video shows Gandhi and workers laying bricks on a staircase.
Gandhi listened to the problems of the workers. They indicated that their biggest problem was that they could not find work every day.
Since Gandhi undertook the 4,000-km trek from Kanyakumari to Kashmir Bharat Jodo Yatra from September 2022 to January 2023, he has had several encounters with diverse people from the society, from mechanics to farmers and labourers.
Gandhi on Friday met a group of Indian Railways locomotive pilots, who complained of “insufficient rest due to shortage of staff”.
