Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday termed the Cabinet-approved ‘BioE3’ policy a path-breaking initiative and said it will boost scientific, industrial and societal advancement in the future.

The Union Cabinet has approved the “BioE3” (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) policy to promote high-quality bio-production in the Biotechnology Department.

According to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the policy is aimed at supporting innovation-driven research and development and entrepreneurship across all thematic sectors.

In a post on X, Modi said, “The BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) policy approved by the Cabinet is a path-breaking initiative that will promote high-value bio-manufacturing.”

“This will also boost scientific, industrial and social progress in the coming period. Other benefits include environmental conservation and job creation,” the prime minister said.

Modi also praised the Vigyan Dhara programme, saying it will boost innovation and scientific research among young minds.

“Vigyan Dhara will encourage innovation and scientific research among young minds. It will help India to become a global leader in research, science and technology,” he said on the microblogging platform.

The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved the continuation of three overarching plans of the Ministry of Science and Technology, which have been merged into a unified central sector plan called “Vigyan Dhara”.

The proposed expenditure for Vigyan Dhara is Rs 10,579 crore during the period of the 15th Finance Commission from 2021-22 to 2025-26, Vaishnaw told reporters.

The programme consists of three broad components: scientific and technological institutional and human capacity building, research and development, and innovation, technological development and implementation.
