Wild moment robber on motorcycle picks WRONG person to target in street stickup

An armed robber on a motorcycle was shot dead by an off-duty police officer in São Paulo, Brazil, after he tried to mug him on the street.

The 21-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released, drove up to the 28-year-old São Paulo state military police officer and his wife on Saturday as they got out of a car in front of her mother’s house, sources said.

A surveillance camera showed the suspect pointing his weapon at the officer, after which he was shot and fell from his bicycle.

The suspect stumbles as he tries to regain his balance as the police officer continues to shoot at him.

Emergency services treated the suspect at the scene and rushed him to Saboya Hospital, where he died from the gunshot wounds.

“The weapons of the police officer and the suspect have been confiscated and sent for analysis by an expert,” the São Paulo Public Security Department said in a statement.

‘The case was registered as resistance, death by police intervention and attempted robbery by the DHPP (Department of Homicide and Personal Protection) who opened a police investigation to investigate the facts. The military police are supervising the investigation.’

The latest crime statistics report from the São Paulo Public Security Department shows that 101,130 robberies were registered in the first six months of 2024.

The data showed 17,661 robberies in January, before dropping to 16,453 in February and rising again to 17,883 in March. Authorities documented 17,002 robberies in April, before the incidents dropped to 16,501 in May and then fell to 15,630 in June.

Data on the robberies reported in July have not yet been released.

A total of 228,028 robberies were reported in 2023, of which 116,523 occurred in the first six months.
