Cardiff’s 3-1 Championship win over Wigan could face an FA investigation after it was said the match was played with one goal bigger than the other.

The sun have reported that Bluebirds’ caretaker boss Mark Hudson revealed that two of his coaching staff saw a bar higher than the two meters allowed – and that Wigan could be punished.

It is also said that Ryan Wintle’s third goal for Cardiff came in through the bottom of the higher bar on the north side of Latics’ DW stadium.

Wigan boss Leam Richardson said: “It just summed up our day ā€“ if he’d had the free kick on the other side he would have jumped off the bar and not into the goal.”

It is alleged that when Cardiff staff told referee Jamie Bell about the matter, they were told it would take ‘two hours’ to resolve the matter.

The match was postponed for seven minutes while the problem was fixed, although no changes were made.

Hudson said: ‘Two of my coaching staff saw the problem, which we immediately tried to identify.

“We were told by the referee that the investigation would take two hours, but we just wanted to continue.”

“I did ask if we could use that one goal for the entire game.”

Rugby League side Wigan Warriors also play at the DW Stadium, but they haven’t hosted a home game since mid-September.

The goals are dismantled by the Wigan ground crew at the end of each match and reassembled for the next match.

The Bluebirds’ victory put them in the top 10 of the championship, following an outstanding home win over Blackburn four days earlier.
