Spurned wife turns off comatose husband’s life support because he had a mistress

A jilted woman in China has turned off her husband’s life support after he suffered a severe brain hemorrhage while in hospital with his mistress.

The 38-year-old man had been living with his mistress while he was still officially married. He had left his wife about ten years earlier.

But after suffering a stroke at his beloved’s home and being taken to hospital, he was admitted to intensive care and fell into a coma.

Doctors desperately contacted his wife to ask her permission to begin surgery, and when she arrived, she was told he had a slim chance of survival.

The woman allegedly stated that her husband had been unfaithful and had not offered her any support. She then refused to sign the consent form and asked the doctors to remove his tracheal tube. She also gave up her efforts to save him.

Doctors had initially asked permission from the man’s mistress, but she had already left the hospital, NetEase News reported.

Shortly afterwards, the man’s wife arrived.

Doctors told her that the equipment available would only keep him alive for a short time without surgery.

The cost of the operation would also be very high, she was told, according to the South China Morning Post.

The woman reportedly told doctors that she had known about his “infidelity” for more than ten years and that he had no feelings for her.

She said she hadn’t loved him for a while either.

It is unclear whether anyone else was consulted in her decision to ask doctors to turn off his ventilator.

A cerebral hemorrhage is a type of stroke in which bleeding occurs in the brain tissue.

This happens when a weakened blood vessel in the brain suddenly starts to leak or burst.

The brain struggles to get all the oxygen and nutrients it needs, causing serious damage.

These can happen to anyone, but the risk is greater if, for example, you have high blood pressure, smoke, take blood thinners or injure your head.

In mild cases, doctors may prescribe medications to relieve symptoms and prevent the condition from worsening.

In severe cases, emergency surgery may be necessary.

Chinese doctors are required by law to inform a patient’s family about the risks of surgery and to obtain written consent before performing the surgery if the patient is unable to do so themselves.

In some cases, the head of the hospital may give permission for an operation if there is a disagreement about the procedure to be followed.

The decision to withdraw someone else’s ventilation remains a sensitive and controversial topic that is enshrined in law around the world.

In 2022, a 72-year-old woman was arrested in Germany after allegedly turning off her hospital roommate’s ventilator twice because she found the sound annoying.

The woman was jailed on suspicion of attempted murder after hospital staff allegedly saw her turn off the ventilator for the second time, having been told earlier that day that it was vital for the patient and that the ventilator had to remain on.

The 79-year-old patient had to be resuscitated, but survived in intensive care.

Ventilators blow oxygen into patients’ lungs, allowing them to breathe on their own.

It is unclear what happened to the elderly woman when her ventilator was disconnected.
