Widow of California public defender says cops demanded money before he ‘fell to his death’

The heartbroken widow of a California public defender has spoken out for the first time about his death and believes he was murdered.

Kimberly Williams and Elliot Blair, 33, had been celebrating their first wedding anniversary at Las Rocas Resort and Spa in Mexico.

Authorities have continually claimed his death was an “accident” while his family says he was the victim of a “brutal crime.”

His wife, Kim, says she still can’t sleep in a bed because “the last time I was in bed they woke me up and found my husband dead.”

She says ‘someone did this to her’ and previously, her family’s lawyers said they were told she suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

speaking to abc, Kim said: ‘They said it was an accident. Suicide, gunshot wound. It was a roller coaster. Suicide.

I mean, everything under the sun except what I think happened. Someone did this to him.

I just remember him telling me how beautiful I looked that night. He was my rock, my everything. I still can’t go on a bed.

“I can’t, I sleep on the sofa because the last time I was in bed they woke me up and found my husband dead.”

The couple received massages and five or six drinks before going to dinner together, with Kim saying she had “never seen” her husband “sloppy” after drinking.

On their way home they were reportedly stopped by Mexican police, who said they ran a stop sign and demanded cash.

Kim said: ‘Elliot has always told me that when we go there to be non-committal, he’ll take care of whatever needs to be said with them.

‘Elliot had said, I had told you we don’t have the amount of cash you want. The other officer came over and started talking to us, you know, where are you staying?

Elliot told them we were talking on The Rocks. Elliot stood his ground, showed her his work plate, and said, look, we’re lawyers.

We are not here to waste time. But we are not going to be taken advantage of either. We didn’t have the amount they wanted.

“We were both bewildered, but at the same time we both had this feeling of, thank God they didn’t do anything else to us.”

She says the couple handed over all the cash in their wallets, $160, before returning to the hotel and going up to the hotel room.

Elliott went to shower, and Kim fell asleep before being awakened by a security guard and a hotel manager in her room.

The lawyer reportedly viewed an Instagram video at 00:35 and an ambulance was called to report the incident at the hotel at 00:50.

She added: ‘I ran out the front door and they were aiming at the ground down the side of our front door area. It was my Elliot down there.

“I was just yelling at them to call an ambulance, call an ambulance. Call an ambulance. They said an ambulance came an hour ago.

I want the world to know who my Elliot is. I want to make sure they remember it.

A family expert believes her death “was not an accident” and has released images of her injuries, which show bruises on the front of her body.

Dr Rami Hashish said: ‘There are indications of the possibility of being dragged on the front of the body.

There are fractures in the back of the skull. Nothing really points to the fact that it was necessarily an accident.

Mexican authorities have refuted the claims, with a spokesperson for the Baja California Attorney General’s office telling the LA Times there were “no signs of violence” and dismissing evidence of a gunshot wound.

After his wife was informed of the incident, a family friend came and translated for her, and the family’s lawyer claimed that a police officer told Kim that her husband had been shot in the head.

When the coroner’s office contacted the family days after her death, they were told the cause of death was head trauma and that her death would be referred to prosecutors as a suspected homicide.

The family is “disappointed” that they cannot produce a toxicology report to refute claims that Blair was drunk when he died.

They also plan to do their own autopsy when they get her body back, and the morgue tells the family that bodies are only embalmed under the orders of the family or prosecutors.

Family and colleagues said on a GoFundMe page for Blair that he was “tragically murdered” and died due to a “brutal crime.”

In a brief statement, Mexican authorities said they are investigating her death and are in contact with US authorities through the US Department of Justice and the FBI, which is in turn informing Blair’s family.

At around 1:15 a.m. on January 14, authorities were notified that Blair fell from the balcony of the Hotel Las Rocas in the town of Rosarito, just south of Tijuana and off the Tijuana-Ensenada highway.
