Throw out the high-heeled pumps! These are the six fashion trends you’ll be wearing in 2025 – and you might already have them in your wardrobe
For most of us, January means big coats and cozy sweaters, all style dictates thrown out the window as we recover from the festive season.
However, fashion never stops – and those in the know have already turned their attention to the new seasonal trends that will shake up our wardrobe for the coming year.
First the bad news. The spring/summer catwalks were dominated by striking looks: single-leg trousers at Louis Vuitton; Carrie Bradshaw-esque tutu skirts at Simone Rocha; dresses so transparent that they show your underwear at Fendi.
Fortunately, there are also more wearable trends on the way – examples of which you may already own. Statement prints are back, so now’s the time to dust off anything with leopard spots or plaid.
Narrower jeans are replacing ultra-wide styles (hurray!). And if your feet are still recovering from party high heels, you’ll be happy to know that sneakers pair well with dresses this season.
Of course, the dawn of a new year doesn’t mean you need a whole new wardrobe. If you’re looking for a style update for 2025, here are five fashion trends you can easily copy from the runway.
Romantic blouses
In terms of tops, the must-see style is a romantic blouse. Balloon sleeves, ruffles, lace and bows are championed by the likes of Saint Laurent and Chanel. Think part Stevie Nicks, part Adam Ant.
If there’s one piece that will update both your weekend and work wardrobe, this is it. Me + Em’s Floral Pussy Bow Blouse (£175, meandem.com) would look just as good with a knit midi and heeled boots as it would with jeans and flats.
Wear Albaray’s embroidered high-neck blouse (pictured) now under a knitted tank top, or pair it with a denim midi skirt and sandals when it’s warmer.
The boho bag
Last year’s bohemian trend is not going away. In fact, the upcoming season has a decidedly free-spirited vibe, with Chloe, Gabriela Hearst and Proenza Schouler all exuding a seventies vibe.
This trend really comes into its own in the summer. But you can now also incorporate it into your everyday wardrobe with a chic boho bag.
Channel your inner Sienna miller with a slouchy suede style. The spacious brown tote bag from Russell & Bromley (photo) fits your daily necessities and is luxurious enough for the office.
Mint Velvet’s fringed shoulder bag (£150, mintvelvet.com) can be thrown over a sheepskin coat and jeans at the weekend.
Beautiful green
Call it the Wicked effect: fashion has fallen for green. Sage, khaki and olive green are just what you need to freshen up your wardrobe staples.
Nothing Underneath’s striped green shirt (£120, at Nothingunderneath.com) will give work trousers a boost.
Liven up denim with a punchy knit like John Lewis’ wool v-neck (£49, johnlewis.com). Or try these Phase Eight faux leather pants.
Dots
From leopard spots to checks and striking floral prints: statement prints make an impression.
At the top of the list are dots, as seen on Valentino, Carolina Herrera and Marc Jacobs, to name a few.
Just a touch of polka dots will bring a new seasonal vibe to your everyday look. Try Sezane’s navy and cream silk shirt (£115, sezane.com) under a tailored trouser suit.
Or go head to toe with a spotty maxi dress. Boden’s navy blue style (pictured) can be worn during the day with a sweater and sneakers, and dressed up at night with sandals and large earrings.
Spring sparkle
From bejeweled macs at Erdem to glittering jackets at Valentino and Gucci’s disco ball skirt suit, spring-ready glitter is big news.
Consider this permission to continue wearing your party clothes into the new year. Team M&S’s sequin-speckled bomber jacket (£79, marksandspencer.com) with jeans; wear a cozy cable knit over the shiny skirt from Busby & Fox (pictured). What better way to beat the January blues?
If you fancy a touch of sparkle, up the ante on your everyday earrings with the topaz earrings from V by Laura Vann (£110, vbylauravann.com).
Or wear Tilly Sveeas’ bejeweled T-bar necklace (£120, tillysveeas.co.uk) to brighten up a plain T-shirt.
Slim jeans
What shape of jeans should we wear now? Narrower silhouettes have replaced the ultra-wide styles that have dominated in recent seasons.
Whistles’ stretch barrel-leg jeans (£95, whistles.co.uk) will be the cult style to know. For a chic high-street option, look to Baukjen’s authentic barrel-shaped legs (photo).
Classic straight cuts were a hit with Coach and Moschino. Enter the M&S Sienna style (£39.50, marksandspencer.com), which has a high waistband for tucking in tops.
