Good news! The highly anticipated first trailer for Wicked – the film version of the Broadway musical has arrived.

It showcases the impressive vocal talents of leads Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and includes excerpts from the classic songs Popular and Defying Gravity.

The film will hit theaters on November 27 this year and cost a whopping $145 million to make.

It has an all-star cast including Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage and Bowen Yang.

It is directed by Jon M. Chu, the man responsible for the megahit Crazy Rich Asians.

In January, Grande shared an emotional post about wrapping up filming on Wicked, where she met her boyfriend Ethan Slater.

‘I will never forget a minute of my year(s). [Glinda]’ she wrote on her Instagram Story. ‘Or you. or my Cyn [Cynthia Erivo]. Permanent and preferably intertwined,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

She continued, “I’m so inexplicably grateful that we were able to add so many soaked lashes to the collection.” The two-time Grammy winner then thanked the film’s director, Jon M. Chu, and admitted that “there are no words yet” to describe her emotions.

“Thank you, Jon, for leading the way with such compassion, openness, brilliance and kindness,” she concluded. ‘I’ve never seen anyone decorate a room the way you do. I love you so much.’

Her post was a response to Chu’s Instagram post saying goodbye to their time together on set.

The film director, 44, declared that he would “never forget” his year with Grande.

He concluded, “Thank you @arianagrande for pouring your heart out to Oz.”

Grande plays Glinda the Good Witch in the upcoming film, based on Gregory Maguire’s best-selling novel and the hit Broadway musical adaptation.

It is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz in which the storyline continues with Dorothy and describes the one-time friendship between the Elphaba and Glinda characters.

On set, she met her boyfriend, who plays Boq, a Munchkinland native.

Earlier this week, Slater shared a slideshow of on-set photos, including a few outside his trailer, which featured his character’s name on the door.

“Hi Boq Woodsman,” he captioned the post.

The film also stars Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, as well as Bowen Yang, Adam James, Keala Settle and Bronwyn James.

Wicked, which is being adapted into a two-part series, has kept details of the shoot under wraps.

Wicked Part 1 was originally scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2024, but has been moved to November 27, 2024, while the second part will be released on December 25, 2025.

Earlier this year, Jeff Goldblum announced that he had been cast in the film while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Kristin Chenoweth, who originally played Glinda the Good Witch, has repeatedly said that she is “so proud” of Grande for taking on her role.
