Wicked fans are furious after a deleted scene has surfaced that some are claiming is ‘crucial’ to the story

While Wicked continues to break box office records in theaters, the hit musical is now available in digital formats, including several deleted scenes.

Wicked has raked in $432.9 million at the domestic box office and $643 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all time.

One of the deleted scenes has now surfaced online (via @GlindasUpland) – titled Elphaba’s Promise – with Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo).

In the scene, Glinda asks about an earlier scene where Elphaba asked Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) to free the lion cub from their classroom.

Glinda insisted she would have helped her if she needed it, while Elphaba turned to her and apologized, adding, “It was a mistake.” I will never leave you again.’

Now fans are up in arms over the scene being left out of the theatrical release, claiming it would have further strengthened the bond between Glinda and Elphaba.

@TheKalenAllen said: “Wow! I wish this had stayed in. It would have made the next few moments even more powerful. Especially when she tells her to come with her.”

Another user named @nyxeli21 added, “This is so crucial, why did they remove it???”

One fan (@yonoexiste) speculated: ‘They removed this because they knew it was too gay and no one would have cared (no one does) about the love triangle they want to encourage.’

@mslinneag said: “This literally makes no sense why they removed this?!?! It gives so much depth to their friendship.’

@ItsBankhead_ joked: ‘I won’t leave you again’ and then Glinda leaves her.’

Another user called @kehvvin insisted that ‘NOTHING should have been left out’, while @kinyaNGitonga wondered: ‘Why remove.’

@daktabryce praised Elphaba’s line: “Maybe it’s harder for you to make magic because it’s been kind of easy for you. so you don’t need it,” and added, “what a great line…”
