A teenager has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer in South Australia, with police relegating a first attempt to murder against him.
Police allege the 15-year-old boy hit the officer twice in the head with a flashlight as he approached him in Whyalla Stuart at around 10:20pm on Thursday.
The officer saw the boy in a park on Wittwer St and went to check on him as he had been reported missing by relatives earlier that evening.
After the alleged attack, the boy fled.

He was found a short time later at his home in Whyalla Stuart at around 11:45 pm and was charged with attempted murder.
That charge was later downgraded to aggravated assault causing harm and harm to a prescribed rescuer.
The injured officer, 34, was taken to Whyalla Hospital for treatment. He has now been fired.
The teenager has been denied bail and will appear before Whyalla Magistrates Court on Friday.
