Why you should avoid this bikini trend at all costs: Influencers shock the internet by flaunting their figures in bizarre ‘nappy’ G-string swimsuits

Australian influencers are making waves online with a new bikini trend.

Social media stars including Tammy Hembrow, Skye Wheatley and Brittany Hockley have been showing off their figures in two-piece swimsuits made up of stretchy ‘triangle’ G-strings, which some have described as resembling diapers or disposable underwear you wear to get a spray tan.

Australian beauty queen Gabby Epstein also recently showed off her ultra-slim figure on social media in a scanty leopard thong model from the trend.

However, many fans responded to the comments and found the bizarre bikini bottoms unflattering.

“That is the least flattering swimsuit I have ever seen,” one person wrote. “Those pants are absolutely hideous,” another agreed.

Skye was also criticised by her fans for her racy display in the two-piece, with one saying: ‘That bikini looks like lingerie.’

Meanwhile, Brittany has also embraced the trend, wearing a variety of colored swimsuits during her engagement trip to the Maldives with her fiancé, Swiss footballer Benjamin Siegrist.

Celebrity stylist Jess Pecoraro, who works with celebrities including Jackie O. Henderson and Megan Gale, told Ny Breaking Australia that the bikini style is really only flattering for one body type.

“It’s great on, say, a Georgia Fowler or a Dominique Elissa. If you’re incredibly muscular, great,” she explained.

She says that when it comes to swimwear, especially as you get older, more covered styles with a chic cut can be sexier than the barely-there trends.

“I think as you get older you start to feel like you don’t have to wear a diaper bikini to look sexy,” she says.

“I can wear a beautiful swimsuit and still think, ‘Hey, I’m hotter than the girl in the diaper bikini.’”

It comes after another surprising New trend that recently emerged during Miami Swim Week 2024.

Designers are taking inspiration from 1990s fashion and are now designing rosette bikinis using the popular flower-shaped embellishment.

Popular brands such as Mahogany Coast Swim, Ema Savahl and Diva Boutique chose to accentuate the striking flower.

Rosette details add a three-dimensional element and a feminine touch to swimwear, making this season’s pieces feel romantic yet sassy.

The Blue Topaz show chose to subtly embrace the trend by attaching white rosettes to a strapless bikini set. Milus Rose, however, went all out and created string bikini tops out of small rosettes that were only supposed to cover the wearer’s nipples.

While countless fashion brands are revamping their Y2K styles, the swimwear industry has opted to skip the neon-colored triangles and instead opt for the more classic, yet somehow scandalous, trend.

A model walked the Milus Rose show in a pink crochet bikini with small rosettes as a top.

The designer also presented a two-tone denim bikini where one bra cup consisted of a rosette and the other a simple triangle.
