Why was Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel sacked by Chelsea?

Thomas Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea but has a chance to prove to Todd Boehly and Co that he is STILL one of the best in the world as Bayern Munich take on Man City in the Champions League tonight… but where did it go wrong? Stamford bridge?

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel returns to Champions League action tonight as Bayern Munich take on Manchester City.

It was not too long ago that the 49-year-old lifted the trophy with his Chelsea side, beating tonight’s opponents Man City in the 2021 final.

The head coach proved himself one of the world’s best managers in his short time at Stamford Bridge before being ruthlessly sacked by Chelsea’s new owner this season.

During his time in England, the head coach led his side to 62 wins in 99 games, losing just 18 times in his 20 months with the club and reaching both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals in the 2021/22 season.

However, Todd Boehly and Co decided that Tuchel was ultimately not the right man to lead the Blues. So, where did it all go wrong at Stamford Bridge?

Tuchel’s ex-wife revealed that the German was sacked from his role as head coach at Chelsea for “off-the-pitch reasons and because the players lost respect for him”.

This revelation came during a hearing in the Munich court after the couple split after 13 years together.

Boehly later confirmed the reason for his sacking, stating that despite Chelsea losing 1–0 to Dinamo Zagreb in Tuchel’s last game in charge, this defeat was not the last straw.

The Chelsea co-owner revealed: ‘The reality of our decision was that we weren’t sure Thomas saw it the same way we did.

‘No one is right or wrong, we just didn’t have a shared vision for the future. It wasn’t about Zagreb, it was about the shared vision of what we wanted Chelsea to look like.

“It wasn’t a decision that was made because of a single win or loss. It was a decision that we thought was the right vision for the club.’

Tuchel was sacked after three wins, a draw and three defeats at the start of the 2022-23 season and admitted he felt his departure was premature.

“It ended too soon for me, but I couldn’t control it anymore,” he said. ‘You also sign for this.’

Chelsea fans, given Tuchel’s success, were also understandably upset by the head coach’s sacking.

His replacement Graham Potter failed to finish the season at Stamford Bridge, where The Blues were eleventh in the Premier League before turning to Frank Lampard on an interim basis. That decision also drew criticism from a number of fans.

But now Tuchel has another chance to show how good he is as Bayern Munich against Man City, a team he has already beaten in the Champions League.

After replacing Chelsea-linked Julian Nagelsmann in Munich, the 49-year-old also has a chance to clinch the Bundesliga title in the German capital and prove himself one of the best in the business.
