Why this single video from Bondi Beach angers Australia: ‘Hell on Earth’
A short clip of Sydney’s most popular beach, filmed during the weekend heatwave, has divided Australian users, with one claiming it looks like ‘hell on earth’.
The video, uploaded by user Pari, runs across Bondi Beach from the north side and shows thousands of sunbathers crowding the sand and playing in the shallow water.
“Oh my god, look at the people on the beach,” the man filming shouts.
The video, which has now been viewed almost half a million times, was flooded with negative reactions from disillusioned beachgoers.
“Sydney is hell on earth,” said one.
“Bondi Beach is Australia’s biggest lie to the rest of the world,” another added.
The author of the clip later revealed that they tried three different locations in the city’s exclusive eastern suburbs, but “they all looked the same.”
‘Bondi is such a ***. Overrated,” wrote one Australian.

“It’s the beginning of spring, imagine summer,” said one Australian
“This is a daily occurrence at Bondi, it’s always so packed,” said another.
“I thank myself every day for moving to Perth,” a third joked.
A fourth added: ‘This is why I’m glad I work weekends and have two days off during the week, there’s no one on the beach.
Another said: ‘I’m happy when everyone goes to Bondi lol I’m going somewhere else and there’s plenty of room for me.
Others suggested the author should forget about the city’s crowded beaches and travel elsewhere.
‘I live in Sydney. Worst beaches in NSW. Go south, not crowded and much nicer,” said one.
Another said: ‘Come to the mid-north coast. Entire beach to yourself and no paid parking.’
A third added: ‘The reason I don’t want to live in the city.’
“This is literally the reason I will never live in Sydney. I love going to the beach here in Perth and have two families there in the middle of summer, plus a fourth.
Similar busy scenes were seen on Coogee beach on Saturday as crowds in the town tried to make the most of the early spring heatwave.
“It’s the beginning of spring, imagine summer,” said one user.
At least 26 people were taken to hospital after taking part in the Sydney Marathon on Sunday as the mercury peaked at 32 degrees Celsius.
