Why this single photo of chips has angered Aussies and sparked a major debate

An Australian chip lover has taken to social media to vent her anger over the ‘scandalous’ size of her fries, with the store blaming the low cost of living.

Karen posted a message on the local Crime and Information Facebook page expressing her outrage at the portion she received from a hot dog shop on the New South Wales north coast.

Daily Mail Australia has chosen not to name the store or area.

“I’m not sure if this is just information or a crime,” Karen began.

Considering Australians’ fondness for fries, many would call this a crime.

Karen turned the temperature up a notch. “This is a $10 order of hot fries,” she wrote.

She added that she called the store to complain and was told the portion sizes had been reduced.

“I have spoken to a few people who said they have complained about the same thing. Why is nothing being done?” she fumed.

Most of the comments on Karen’s post agreed that the portion was sadly large.

“Wow, that’s outrageous,” someone wrote.

“That was exactly our $10 today,” agreed another.

Some users get straight to the point and attach a monetary amount to the hot chip serving.

“Looks like it’s $1.00,” one person wrote.

Another added: ‘Absolutely outrageous, that’s only worth $2.’

A local remarked: ‘We had the same thing last week. We won’t go there again!’

“Don’t go back… it’s ridiculous!”

Another local resident added that he will not be returning to the store.

“It’s sad because I was born and raised here and have many fond family memories of warm French fries on the headland,” she added.

“It is no longer a tradition that is affordable for families.”

In response to Karen’s post, Facebook users advised her to file a complaint with the store.

Karen replied that she had indeed complained and that “they were very nice to talk to, but they were very dismissive of profit.”

“There is no profit if no one supports the company.”

One of them stood up for the store and suggested that Karen do her business somewhere else. ‘It’s really quite simple.’

Karen replied, “We will.”
