Why Noel Gallagher didn’t perform with brother Liam at Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois fight despite burying the hatchet and announcing Oasis reunion tour

  • Noel Gallagher headlined the pre-Joshua vs Dubois match entertainment
  • Fans speculated that the pair could perform after the Oasis reunion announcement

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher gave fans a taste of what’s to come next year when he took to the stage at Wembley on Saturday night.

The 51-year-old gave a mini-performance of several Oasis songs in the sold-out venue where the two Gallagher brothers will perform seven highly-anticipated shows next July.

Liam had already been confirmed as the headliner for the show ahead of Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois, long before the Gallagher brothers decided to fight together for the first time in more than 15 years.

Following the announcement of their reunion, many fans speculated that Noel would be joining his brother on stage on Saturday night, nine months before the confirmed reunion date. However, that did not happen, despite pleas from organizers for the duo to perform.

Why didn’t Noel perform with Liam on stage tonight during Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois?

The duo likely decided not to perform together on stage for Joshua vs. Dubois because they wanted to stage their reunion on their own terms.

Tickets for their long-awaited reunion tour went on sale in early September, with fans scrambling to get in and ticket websites crashing to see their first shows in over 15 years.

It seems fitting then that fans will first see the iconic duo during their highly anticipated, sold-out tour and not at a sporting event.

Before the clash of the titans, Turki Alalshikh told talkSPORT that he would ask Noel if he wanted to perform alongside Liam.

The Saudi boxing leader said: ‘I hope so! It will be something great if we get them together.’

Asked if he had asked Noel yet, he added: “We’ll try. Why not?”

His comments came after Simon Jordan revealed to talkSPORT the week before that he had asked Noel Gallagher about the reunion.

He said: ‘It’s funny because I asked him – he actually came to the Joshua Buatsi-Dan Azeez fight [in February] – and I had asked him about September 21st.

“The reason he didn’t go was because he didn’t think it looked good. When he was in the audience, Liam was singing and he was wearing earmuffs!”

‘But now they have all made friends and collected a big bag of money for themselves all over the world.’

Liam took to the stage to loud applause on Saturday night and performed a number of the band’s most popular hits, including Rock ‘N’ Star and Supersonic, to a sold-out Wembley.

Boxing expert Steve Bunce told the broadcast live that Noel and Liam were both regulars at matches in the 1990s when they were at their peak, and the pair were clearly big fans of the sport.

The boxing fans in attendance chanted ‘Liam, Liam’ between songs, while the iconic frontman played an array of percussion instruments including maracas and a tambourine with his trademark confidence and almost nonchalance.
