Why Melania Trump might not live with husband Donald full-time in the White House if he wins the presidential election, according to friends and allies

First Lady experts claim that if Donald Trump wins another term in 2024, his wife Melania will likely not move to the White House again.

They speculate that the former first lady will split her time between the Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach and New York City β€” especially now that it’s thought their son Barron, 18, may be attending New York University.

It’s likely that Melania would only return to Washington DC for ceremonial responsibilities – such as state dinners – or other special events.

This is a huge break with centuries of tradition and an unprecedented step for a first lady to not live with her husband in the presidential residence.

“She’s distancing herself even more from her husband and from the sociopolitical scene in Washington,” Kate Andersen Brower, who has written several books about first ladies, told Axios about Melania’s potential future moves.

β€œI mean, she obviously hated being in Washington,” she added.

East Wing experts speculate Melania Trump will not move to the White House full-time if husband Donald wins another term in November

Melania sightings remain scarce since the Trumps left the White House in 2021.

She was largely absent during her husband’s hush money trial in Manhattan, emerging from Trump Tower several days later with luggage and Barron in tow.

If Trump wins in November, insiders say Americans shouldn’t expect the model-turned-first lady to return to the East Wing or see more appearances in D.C.

Barron, Trump’s youngest son, is also unlikely to return to the White House as he plans to attend college in the fall.

Washington Post associate editor Mary Jordan, author of a book about Melania, claims, “Melania does what Melania wants.”

β€œHer opinion is not chosen and not paid for,” Jordan said told AxiosAdding this sets her apart from all other first ladies in history.

Melania has also avoided making regular appearances during the 2024 campaign trial, only occasionally participating in private events.

Next month, the former first lady will host the conservative LGBT group Log Cabin Republicans for a fundraiser at her and Donald’s Trump Tower residence in New York City.

If another Trump term comes around next year, Jordan speculates that Melania would make sure she has a bigger, “better” and “more qualified” workforce this time.

β€œNow that she’s seen how this works, she would just be wiser, louder and more demanding about what the first lady’s office should get,” she added.

β€œStay tuned,” Melania said last month when asked whether Americans could expect more from her on the campaign trail soon.
