Why ‘MAGA-patriot’ Joan Collins will always be in Donald Trump’s corner

Joan Collins considers Donald Trump one of her “lifelong best friends,” according to sources who say the Hollywood icon has “never been shy about her love” for the politician.

The Dynasty star, 91, raised eyebrows this week after she was dubbed a pro-MAGA patriot while attending a “pre-inauguration party” with right-wing friends.

The iconic actress was spotted enjoying a “lovely dinner with friends” in a photo shared by conservative actor James Woods on his X account.

Seeing the star alongside Woods and other outspoken MAGA fanatics prompted many fans to share their surprise that Collins is associated with the group.

However, a source exclusively explained to DailyMail.com that it should be “no surprise at all” as the newly elected president is one of her “best friends.”

“For Joan, Donald is not only a former president and soon-to-be MAGA president, but he is also one of her lifelong best friends,” the insider began. “She has been in his circle for forty years and they have so much love for each other.”

The source noted that Collins has openly praised Trump for helping inspire her beloved Dynasty character, Alexis Carrington Colby.

“It’s no secret that Joan modeled her infamous Alexis character in Dynasty after Donald,” the insider continued. “She has discussed her inspiration numerous times over the years, saying it was half Donald Trump and half another friend of hers.

“She took Donald’s ‘ruthlessness’ for Alexis. Joan has never been shy about her love for Donald.”

The source also highlighted Collins’ close relationship with both Trump and his late ex-wife Ivanna.

The insider added, “But it wasn’t just Donald who was a big part of her life, but also Donald’s ex-wife Ivanna, Ivanka’s mother. Joan and Ivanna were so close and remained friends until Ivanna’s death.

‘Joan was heartbroken when Ivanna died because she was one of the few people who really got her. She never let Donald and Ivanna’s divorce change her love and respect for each of them.”

Opening up about the British icon’s decision to support her boyfriend during his political campaigns, the insider continued: “Joan has always been quiet about her political leanings because she doesn’t believe it needs to be aired.”

Collins’ fifth husband, Percy Gibson, 60, was also at the gathering which started as a “post-Christmas dinner.”

Woods explained in the photo’s caption, “It evolved from a post-Christmas dinner to a pre-inauguration celebration.” It’s not often that you’re surrounded by patriots in Hollywood. What a joyful evening.’

Actor Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie’s father, was also present.

The star has made no secret of his love for Trump and was recently spotted enjoying the election results at the newly elected president’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

In 2017, while appearing on the Jonathan Ross show, Collins opened up about Trump being the inspiration for her character Alexis.

“I wrote about it years and years ago that one of the people mentioned was Donald Trump,” she said at the time.

Collins said she was attracted to Trump “because he was a very tough, tough, smart, devious and manipulative man.”

The acting icon added that she had seen Trump several years earlier when she bought an apartment in New York, and said the businessman was “very interested” in her moving to Trump Tower.

“Thank God not!” she added. “Now you know what it’s like, you have to go through security.”

She opened up again about the inspiration Trump gave her character during a “flirty” interview with Louis Theroux in November.

“I said when I was asked about my character Alexis, who I was thinking of when preparing, I said ‘well, a mix of Donald Trump’, who wasn’t president at the time, he was just a businessman,” and a friend of me who was a very glamorous city woman who was very smart, so I wanted to have a mix of them,” she recalled.

Louis then asked what specific qualities of Trump she incorporated into the character, with the actress highlighting his “ruthlessness.”

But the Lady refused to be drawn into a discussion about politics, saying: ‘I try not to get involved in politics. I’m an actress, so I don’t think we should express our political opinions.
