Why did killjoy officials tell Victoria Azarenka to REMOVE the Paris Saint-Germain jersey the two-time Australian Open champion wore for her son?
Former Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka may have been denied a chance at a third title at Melbourne Park, but that’s unlikely to make a difference to her biggest fan: her son.
The two-time Australian Open champion from Belarus was defeated by Elena Rybakina in the semifinal last night.
And keen observers may have noticed that he wasn’t wearing a Paris Saint-Germain jersey before the game.
Azarenka had been breaking the rules of the Australian Open by wearing the PSG jersey in honor of her seven-year-old son Leo, who is a fan of the Ligue 1 champion team.
He wants to play for Paris Saint-Germain. That’s his dream,’ Azarenka said.
‘I’m a soccer mom now and I love that.
‘I love supporting. I am hateful, like absolutely the most hateful.
While Azarenka got away with wearing the jersey at Melbourne Park throughout the tournament, the killjoy officials finally put an end to the situation last night.
They ordered him to remove his jersey because it violated the Open’s rules regarding the display of sponsor logos.
“They told me to take it off twice because I had a different jersey,” Azarenka said.
“I think it is the issue of sponsorships. I guess the logos are too big. I mean, it’s not something they’ve done out of the ordinary. I know I’m not allowed to play on it. I knew that kind of thing.
‘But I can still step on the court where I want to step on the court.
I do it for my own reasons. My son wore the white jersey today for his practice, and I tried to wear a white jersey for my game, but couldn’t. So it’s OK.’
Azarenka was disappointed with the loss but said she would come back stronger in 2024 in a bid to claim her third Australian Open title.
“I think time is always good medicine,” he said.
I don’t really dwell on things too much. I feel like I’m in a state of mind where I can be a little more objective.
‘I think what helps me now is not taking it, I did something wrong or I am this or that. I don’t take it (personally). It’s just one day my game didn’t win. I think that helps my mentality to not think too much about things like that.
‘On the other hand, it also motivates you. Well, I want to go one step further and do better. Then take the lens, walk away and see what I can do better next time.
“I think it’s a combination of a few things.”
