Why Jaguars star has no regrets over punching Texans player after Azeez Al-Shaair’s brutal Trevor Lawrence hit
Jaguars rookie Jarrian Jones would not hesitate to punch another rival after being ejected in the chaos that followed Azeez Al-Shaair’s brutal hit on Trevor Lawrence.
It appears Jacksonville quarterback Lawrence will miss the remainder of the NFL season after suffering a concussion in a controversial collision with Texans star Al-Shaair.
The linebacker flew elbow first into Lawrence as the quarterback slid to the grass during the Texans’ 23-20 victory on Sunday.
Al-Shaair was ejected from the game, causing the Jaguars players and coaches to seethe and a brawl ensued. He had to be restrained by his Texans teammates as Lawrence lay motionless on the turf.
Amid the chaos, Jones was also ejected for hitting a Texans player. “I threw something in there.” the cornerback later relented.
After the game, the rookie was condemned by his head coach Doug Pederson, who said: “He can’t do what he did either, that’s unacceptable.”

Jones expects to be fined for the punch and admits he ‘regrets’ being kicked out of the match.
But he insisted: ‘That’s my brother. I would do the same for all 70 guys, or however many people there are in the Jags organization… I just can’t be turned away at that point.”
Jones added: “My brothers had my back, they told me they respected everything – how things went and what I did – but in the big picture you can’t be kicked out of games. That is simply not allowed and I will probably get a hefty fine for that.’
The cornerback was then asked about Texans coach DeMeco Ryans, who accused the Jaguars players of overreacting to Al-Shaair’s goal.
“I don’t even want to talk about that man,” he said, before refusing to address the three-match ban imposed on Al-Shaair, whose appeal against the penalty failed.
