Why I refuse to cook meals for my son’s rude girlfriend even though they’ve been together for six years
A fed-up mum has asked if she is 'wrong' for refusing to cook for her son and his 'fussy' girlfriend when they come to visit.
The woman said she normally prepared a home-cooked meal for the whole family to enjoy, but the friend doesn't eat much and has rudely rejected the food she has made in the past.
On Reddit The mother said the situation is insulting and leaves her questioning whether or not her daughter-in-law is enjoying the food.
“I also come from a different culture than her, so I thought maybe she just didn't like the spices I was using. I've made very simple things and she never eats it. I asked my son about it and he told me she's just a picky eater,” the woman wrote.

The mother explained that her son and his girlfriend have been together for six years and have a child.
'Now when they come to visit I like to make a nice meal, but every time she doesn't eat she just picks at it and covers it up [with] a napkin by the end of the night,” she said.
'They were supposed to come by tomorrow. I told my son I don't cook because I'm tired of her not eating and I feel like I'm wasting my time. I'm going to order pizza.
'He is very angry that I don't cook because he doesn't get home-cooked meals very often. Am I the asshole for not wanting to cook because one of my guests never appreciates it?'
The mother claims that when asked about it, she is 'waved away' by the couple.
The thread was liked more than 4,500 times and received more than 1,500 comments, with the majority of people declaring that the son and his girlfriend were in the wrong.
“You asked for it and they refuse to provide information. He can enjoy his free pizza or have an adult conversation with you. He's not willing to do that either, so he can make his own home-cooked meals at home,” one person commented.
“The son has a baby of his own; time to grow up and learn to cook for his own family and leave mommy out of it!' said another.
However, some encouraged the mother to ask her son if something more serious is going on.
“Maybe her picky eating is rooted in disordered eating. Just something to keep in mind and ask your son privately if she struggles with something like this,” one person shared.
Another said: 'This was my concern too. A friend of mine struggled with eating disorders and did similar things.”

'Have you had a conversation with her about it yet? You didn't tell me how she told you she feels about the situation,” someone asked.
The mother responded by saying that she has tried to start a conversation about this topic before.
“My son ends the conversation or says she doesn't want to talk about it. He's given me things to make before,” she said.
“So she might think I'm a bad cook. I've seen her eat at her house before, so I don't think it's an eating disorder.”
She feels confused, “just can't figure out what's going on” and says the couple eats at restaurants.
Others encouraged the woman to continue using takeaway food as a 'good option', with some questioning whether the friend would eat it compared to home-cooked meals.
