Why Aussie pool legend Susie O’Neill got caught in half-naked intimate moment with fellow swim star

Aussie pool legend Susie O’Neill reveals why she was caught in a semi-naked intimate moment with a fellow swimmer before setting a world record: ‘I had my two bottoms hanging out’

  • She had a clothing defect just before swimming
  • Had to ask Jessicah Schipper to help her

Aussie swimming legend Susie O’Neill is candid about the wardrobe malfunction that left her half-naked when she had to ask a fellow pool star to help her put on a super-tight swimsuit.

The Olympic gold winner broke a world record in the 50m butterfly in Brisbane on Saturday as she prepares to compete in next month’s World Masters tournament – but the run-up to the swim was anything but smooth.

O’Neill couldn’t put on her new Speedo LZR swimsuit and had to ask fellow Aussie pole star Jessicah Schipper to help her – and even then they had a fight.

“It took us 15 minutes to put them on,” revealed the woman known as “Madame Butterfly” radio show.

“My two buttocks were hanging out, and Jessicah knelt down and tried to pull them over my buttocks.

‘I’m naked from the waist down. It was the most intimate thing I’ve done in a long time.’

O’Neill explained that the new swimsuit was so incredibly tight “it’s like wearing a corset.”

Her time in the 50m butterfly of 28.95 seconds was the best ever by a woman aged 50-54 – but she didn’t realize the scope of her achievement at the time.

“It was weird, I had no idea about the record,” she said after successfully qualifying for the World Masters in Fukuoka, Japan, next month.

“I was just swimming for fun, as part of my 50th birthday next month.”

O’Neill said before heading to the Chandler Acquatic Center in her native Brisbane that she “didn’t think I’d ever walk back to this place to swim!”

But old habits persist, and after winning 24 gold medals in major world tournaments, O’Neill picked up where she left off after her 200m freestyle win at the Sydney Olympics.

“It’s my first butterfly stroke since the 200m butterfly in Sydney. It’s actually my first competition since the Sydney Olympics,” said the swimming legend.

“I didn’t think I’d ever come to a swim meet again, and again it’s affected all of my weekend plans.”
