Whoopi Goldberg has weighed in on the dispute over whether Covid-19 originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, declaring that “politics got in the way” of the truth.
Goldberg speculated that the theory was initially quashed due to concerns that it would fuel anti-Asian hate crimes while endorsing Talk show host Jon Stewart, who said he received backlash from liberals for championing the Wuhan 2021 hypothesis.
His comments came after FBI Director Christopher Wray said the pandemic “probably” came from a Chinese government-controlled laboratory.
“Politics got in the way of the search for the truth,” Goldberg told The View on Wednesday morning.
‘They still don’t say it definitively and that’s a problem. They still don’t know for sure.
Whoopi Goldberg said “politics got in the way of finding the truth” as it seemed to support the theory that covid-19 originated from a laboratory leak in Wuhan, China.
Goldberg and his fellow The View panelists discussed comments recently made by FBI Director Christopher Wray that the pandemic “probably” came from a laboratory.
‘You know, who knows where it came from. Maybe she did. Maybe it wasn’t.
She went on to criticize former President Donald Trump, who she said made it a racial issue by stirring up hatred of Asian-Americans in the early days of the pandemic.
“I know when the last guy before Biden said something about this: he said something about Asians,” Goldberg continued.
“I’m sure Jon Stewart didn’t realize what was going on because he didn’t know what was going on across the country with Asians being beaten up and beaten up and people saying things to them about bringing the disease.” here.’
The origins of covid-19 have been the subject of fierce worldwide debate, with early theories suggesting that it had developed in bats.
But some scientists speculated that it was actually the result of a leak from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, though this was largely seen as a conspiracy theory promoted by the fringes of society.
At the time, reports indicated that there had been an increase in hate crimes against Asians as a result of the pandemic tensions.

Beijing has responded to claims that the virus emerged in the Wuhan laboratory, accusing Washington of “political manipulation.” Pictured: Researchers at work in the Wuhan lab in 2017
But yesterday, FBI Director Christopher Wray added weight to the Wuhan theory, as he claimed that China had done “everything possible to try to thwart and obfuscate” efforts to establish how the pandemic started.
Since then, Beijing has fought back, accusing Washington of “political manipulation.”
Earlier in the week, the US Department of Energy also concluded with “low confidence” that the Wuhan Theory was plausible.
The news vindicated former ‘Daily Show’ host Jon Stewart, who touted the Wuhan hypothesis on a 2021 episode of Stephen Colbert’s show.
Stewart said this week that he was stunned by the liberal reaction he received to the comments.
“First of all, I wasn’t expecting the Department of Energy to weigh in on this,” Stewart said during his new Apple show The Problem.
“The biggest problem with all of this is the inability to discuss things that are within the realm of possibility without falling into absolutes and testing each other’s political loyalties as they came out of it.
‘My biggest problem with that was I thought it was a pretty good part expressing how I felt, and the two things that came up were that I’m a racist against Asians and how dare I align myself with the alt-fine.’
He added: “The part I don’t like is the utter and dismissive one like ‘fuck you, I’m done with you.’ I will never forgive you, you have crossed an unforgivable line. He has expressed an opinion that is the antithesis of mine, or not mine.
In the 2021 episode, Stewart had claimed that the pandemic was “most likely caused by science”.
Jon Stewart joked that he could be ‘canceled’ for discussing the lab leak theory he was criticized for bringing up in 2021
When challenged by the host Colbert, he replied, ‘An opportunity? My goodness, there is a new respiratory coronavirus taking over Wuhan, China, what do we do?
‘Oh, you know who we should ask? The Wuhan novel respiratory coronavirus laboratory. The disease is the same name as the laboratory. That’s a little too weird!
Goldberg’s acknowledgment comes on the heels of co-host Joy Behar surprisingly defended Marjorie Taylor Greene after the congresswoman revealed she was attacked by a “crazy” woman at a restaurant.
Behar announced during the morning broadcast of the show that he was “siding with Marjorie on this case.”
“I don’t think anyone should go up to any of us in public and harass us and that goes for you too, Marjorie,” Behar said.
