Whole Foods shopper is left in disbelief after paying $7 for an APPLE as she posts expletive-ridden rant

The price of a simple apple has sparked a heated debate on social media after a young customer passionately protested against paying $7 for the basic product.

More than a million people saw the rant from TikTok user @via..li, who had just emerged from an unnamed branch of Whole Foods.

The Boston-based influencer reached into her bag, grabbed the apple and her phone, and left her followers in no doubt about her anger.

“I literally went shopping at Whole Foods and look at this,” she said, holding up the offending fruit.

‘Guess how much this is. This is an apple, apparently it’s called a SugarBee apple, and look at it.

‘The size of my palm. I thought it was probably two to three dollars. I scanned this motherfucker. I scanned it, seven damn dollars, seven!’

She said she checked with store staff to ensure there was no error and was assured she had just paid the correct price.

“What economy do we all live in anyway that it costs seven dollars to buy an apple?” she asked.

“I could have sworn another apple I bought didn’t cost seven dollars. It’s crazy, like seven dollars for a latte? OK.

“This apple better taste so damn good.”

The video, which has since been deleted, sparked some skepticism from the Whole Foods website, which suggested the apple in question is selling for $3.99 per pound.

The one purchased by the blogger would have to weigh 28 ounces to cost $7, but seems to fit comfortably in the influencer’s hand.

The average American household now spends $1,080 a month at the grocery store, after two years of rampant inflation under Joe Biden took its toll on household budgets.

But some criticized her for shopping at the more expensive supermarket in the first place.

“Probably at a Whole Foods-like place that buys apples picked by a vegan, washed in glacier ice water and blessed with hippie crystals under a planetary retrograde,” VidgyaG tweeted.

“Go to a Wally World and buy one of our pesticide-filled bags of apples for $3,” JC_Midwest suggested.

“The joke is on her,” sashakaka445 added, “she checked the price and bought it anyway.”

“Whole Foods duh!” @KeyserSmoze added, “Look in the parking lot! Do you see the Maserati, Lamborghini, Bently and the Rolls-Royce?

“Your first and only mistake was shopping at Whole Foods,” Elle Henderson wrote. “I’m not sure how anyone who isn’t rich can afford to buy things that won’t prolong your life.”

Some were more sympathetic.

“Seriously, this is not a gourmet apple, the food costs are outrageous!” wrote ErinSpksLoudr.

Annual inflation has fallen to 3.5 percent from a high of 9.1 percent in June 2022, but food prices have remained stubbornly high.

In real terms, prices for hundreds of basic supermarket products have risen by more than 50 percent since 2019.

And some defended the store.

“Don’t you buy premium apples at Whole Foods? I just bought 6 pounds of Fujis this week for just over $7,” wrote KellyOwens9997.

Others pointed out that the ‘SugarBee’ is one of the most expensive apples available anywhere.

The species was created in Washington in the early 1990s and is the result of an accidental cross-pollination between a Honeycrisp and another unknown variety.

“She needed a reason to make a rant video, and here’s why,” Ken W suggested.

“Buy that seven dollar apple, create a tiktok complaining about the apple and make hundreds to thousands of dollars in return,” another added.
