Whole Foods shopper in disbelief after store changes recipe of popular $5 treat: ‘Just fell to my knees’

A recipe change to a popular Whole Foods product has sparked widespread concern among disbelieving customers who claim the store “ruined everything.”

The $5 Berry Chantilly Cake was a popular treat among Whole Foods shoppers until one curious fan discovered how the cake had suddenly changed for the worse.

An online creator vented her frustrations and showed viewers the pie she purchased for a set price of $5. She said there were major changes from the original recipe that included lots of fruit.

“It’s just a little English cake now,” she said, also describing how the new version has berries on the outside, a jam filling in the middle of the cake and is now “half the size of what it used to be.”

“It tastes like cleaning fluid with raspberry jam flavor,” she said after tasting the cake.

In another recent video, the creator noted that Whole Foods was making all sorts of changes to their products and stores, which also led to customer disappointment.

This included removing the rotisserie machines, putting sushi chefs in the store, and changing the recipe to macaroni and cheese.

“We ruined everything!” she said.

One commenter wrote: ‘The way I audibly gasped.’

Another said, “I used to work at Whole Foods Bakery and since Amazon took over the bakery it’s been crazy. They froze everything and it’s gotten more expensive.”

Another creator was also disappointed.

Lisa, who normally writes about her experiences at law school, called the change “criminal behavior.”

She continues that the “worst news ever in my life” came when she found out the product was being changed.

The user says that she used to get a slice every week, but then there were no slices available anymore. The reason for this was that the recipe had changed.

“He was like, ‘Oh, we changed the recipe, we don’t do it that way anymore,’” she said, “now they send it to us frozen, there’s no fruit in the middle anymore,’ and I was like, why would they do that?”

She continues: ‘They are not only taking out the fruit, but also increasing the price.’

Lisa was also told that the only original Chantilly cakes left were the whole cakes. She bought one and hoped to freeze the pieces, but found that the whole cake still did not taste the same.

She concludes the video by expressing her disappointment, saying that she “thinks all of America is disappointed,” and asks Whole Foods to reverse their decision.

Commenters on both videos expressed their disappointment and expressed their love for the old version of the cake.

One of them said, “They threw away all the good stuff.”

Another tagged the Whole Foods account and said, “WHAT, I AM INFLAMMED @Whole Foods Market”

“NO, I GET THIS CAKE EVERY YEAR FOR MY BIRTHDAY,” another commented.

Whole Foods told the Daily dot: ‘Previously, our Berry Chantilly pie program varied per slice per store location.’

They continued: ‘We recently aligned the flavour profile, size, packaging and price point so that customers in all our stores have the same high-quality experience: a delicious slice of cake with fresh fruit, berry compote, cream cheese mascarpone and fluffy vanilla cake layers.’
