Cole Palmer has been mocked by one of his Chelsea teammates after scoring a hat-trick against Manchester United.

The 21-year-old scored three goals as Chelsea recorded a breathtaking 4-3 win over United, with two of his goals coming in the space of 82 seconds after the 100th minute.

That stunning blow left United reeling and moved Palmer into joint second place in the race for the Golden Boot with 16 goals, just two behind Erling Haaland.

However, an unnamed member of the Chelsea squad clearly has high standards and believes Palmer could do even more.

That’s because they wrote “s*** player” on his game ball, as fans pointed out

Palmer posed in the locker room with three fingers up and his match ball, which he gets to keep as is customary for anyone who scores a hat-trick.

While other teammates had simply written their names to adorn his memento, a punch in the middle of the shot was the powerful message.

No doubt an irony, Palmer has been a revelation since joining Stamford Bridge.

After joining from Manchester City for €40 million in the summer, he has only gone from strength to strength.

He now has 21 goals and 12 assists in all competitions, which is actually two more contributions than Phil Foden, although eight of his goals have come from the penalty spot.

Joe Cole has declared him ‘sign of the season’ with a glowing message of support.

He told TNT Sports: ‘What’s even more remarkable is that the way he spoke to Jules, he just scored a goal at the last minute. It was like he just got off the couch, he has his chocolate milk in his hand and he’s ready for bed.

“He’s the coolest guy in the building,” Cole continued. “These fans love him. Since there are no experienced players around, you look for someone who has something magical. Just look at Jude Bellingham, he’s not twenty years old.

“You feel the same way about Cole Palmer. From a Manchester United perspective, how can you give the best player on the pitch time to touch the penalty area and strike at a crucial point in the match?

‘Even he has to think: what is going on here? How did I get this time? He was remarkable. I would say: signing of the season.

“He grabbed this team by the scruff of the neck and said, ‘You’re my team. I’m the one who’s going to get this team through.’ Definitely build a team around him. He has the personality for it. No one thought he would miss this. Cool as you like.”

Chelsea climbed to tenth place in the Premier League with the win, while Manchester United are sixth, nine points behind Tottenham in fifth place.
