Who was Jack Pointer Mackenzie?

Aston Merrygold has paid tribute to ‘original JLS member’ Jack Pointer Mackenzie, who passed away in September 2023 aged just 35.

Band members Marvin Humes, Ortise Williams and JB Gill also paid their respects via their group JLS Instagram account.

He toured with the dance troupe throughout their career and also worked as a choreographer with a range of high-profile musicians.

The exact date and cause of his death are unknown.

Who was Jack Pointer Mackenzie?

‘Captain’ Jack Nathaniel Pointer Mackenzie was a dancer, choreographer and photographer based in London who, according to Aston’s tribute, was part of the original JLS team.

His other high-profile former clients and colleagues include Camilla Cabello, Justin Bieber and Hozier.

According to his website, Jack also worked as a choreographer on advertisements for brands including Honda, Hula Hoops and Sport England.

But, not carried away by greatness, he continued to work as a dance teacher in London studios and worked as a freelance photographer.

However, according to a tribute website, he died at the age of 35 in September 2023, and his funeral took place on October 2.

Base Dance Studios posted their own tribute: ‘A unique gift that will be greatly missed. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.”

When was Jack Pointer Mackenzie in JLS?

Jack toured regularly with X Factor stars JLS from its inception in 2008 until the group’s end in 2021, first as a backing dancer and later as a choreographer.

As part of his tribute, Aston shared a video of Jack dancing from their early rearguard.

He wrote: ‘Captain Jack always with the vibe of 2009 and beyond!! A phenomenal team member!’
