‘Who the f*** is this guy?!’: Rio Ferdinand reveals Wayne Rooney thought Nemanja Vidic was ‘TERRIBLE’ and they both thought Sir Alex Ferguson ‘had messed up’ by signing him and Patrice Evra

Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Wayne Rooney found Nemanja Vidic ‘terrible’ and that Manchester United ‘messed up’ when they signed him and Patrice Evra.

Sir Alex Ferguson brought Vidic and Evra to Old Trafford in the summer of 2006, but they initially struggled.

The pair became legends at Old Trafford, but after a single training session Rooney was not exactly convinced.

Speaking about the Filthy@Five podcastFerdinand recalled his first training session with new Man United signings Vidic and Evra when they first joined.

Ferdinand revealed: ‘I remember me and Wazza walking around after one session. He said, “Who is this man?”

The Man United and England legend continued to reveal Vidic looked unimpressive in his first training session, before expanding on Rooney’s criticism of the signings.

β€œHe was terrible,” he continued.

‘Vidic and Evra signed in the same window and he (Rooney) said: “The manager has messed up, he has messed up, I don’t know what’s going on with the recruitment”.

However, Rooney was soon proven wrong as he lifted some of the biggest trophies, with Vidic and Evra becoming key figures in Ferguson’s defence.

Rooney hopes his eye for talent has improved since 2006, with the former England international in charge of DC United in the MLS.

His team sits in 9th place in the Eastern Conference and will attempt to reach the MLS Cup playoffs by the end of the season.
