Who will replace Carrie Bickmore on The Project?

Sarah Harris, Chrissie Swan and Abbie Chatfield are among the frontrunners tipped to replace Carrie Bickmore on The Project.

The veteran journalist announced Tuesday evening that she was leaving the show to spend more time with her family.

The show currently has a plethora of presenters and panelists, including Hamish MacDonald, Peter Helliar and Waleed Aly, all of whom could take turns taking her roles.

Channel 10 has not yet made an official announcement about who will replace Carrie.

Chrissie Swan, 48, is one of the favorites to replace Bickmore.

A long-time network favorite, the host appears as a guest on the show every Thursday.

Chrissie also filled in for Carrie during her three-month sabbatical when she last moved to the UK earlier this year.

Also on the list is Lisa Wilkinson, who was one of the first to pay tribute to the star when she announced her departure on Tuesday.

One of the less likely names touted is Abbie Chatfield.

The 27-year-old Bachelor-rejected presenter has certainly left her mark on the Australian media landscape in recent months, with appearances on the Masked Singer and Love Island.

She has also gained over half a million followers on Instagram thanks to her outspoken views on everything from the monarchy to sex positions.

Despite being younger than the rest of the cast, Abbie is the same age as Carrie when she joined the show in 2009.

Fellow media fanatic Tracy Grimshaw – who recently resigned from A Current Affair after 26 years – has also been touted to replace Bickmore.

Now that Bickmore is rumored to be going to A Current Affair, it would become a TV game of thrones.

Also on the list to put their name in the hat is Susie Youssef, who has appeared on the show as a regular Friday panelist for years.

Her role as a stand-in has shown how she can conduct high-profile interviews.

Popular with viewers and her TV peers both on and off-screen, Bickmore confirmed she had no intention of leaving the small screen during her Tuesday night announcement: “Honey, I’m not retiring. I’m moving on to something else that I don’t know yet what that is’.

An industry insider told Daily Mail Australia that Bickmore’s potential move to Nine’s Today made “logical” given her undeniable popularity.
