Former France and Manchester United player Patrice Evra has been given a 12-month suspended prison sentence after the 43-year-old was found guilty of abandoning his family.
The Manchester United legend is said to owe €969,000 (£813,640) in unpaid maintenance after deserting his ex-wife Sandra Evra and their two children between May 1, 2021 and September 28, 2023.
His sentence was confirmed by the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office, The Parisian’s claim.
On behalf of Sandra, lawyer Nathalie Dubois told Le Parisien: ‘I hope that, thanks to this decision, Patrice Evra will finally understand that he is not above the law and that you cannot just abandon your wife and children from one day to the next.

Who is Sandra Evra?
Sandra Evra is the ex-wife of former French footballer Patrice Evra.
The couple had been in a relationship for over 25 years. They first met in high school and quickly became childhood sweethearts. Eventually, they got into a relationship.

Cheating scandal
Their relationship, however, was not entirely smooth. In 2013, it was reported that the Frenchman had been unfaithful to Sandra with a Playboy twin.
In an article from SunThe married man reportedly had his eye on Playboy model Carla Howe for three months before sleeping with her at his Paris hotel.

Parting
The now retired footballer filed for divorce in 2020, but it has not yet been finalized to this day.
Reports of a split between the two came to light when Evra was caught kissing Danish model Margaux Alexandra in July 2020, just five months after he filed for divorce from Sandra.
Evra and Alexandra are now engaged and have two young children together.

Sandra is said to be deeply saddened by Evra’s abandonment and new relationship. She is said to have heard about his relationship with Alexandra via social media.
She told The Sun: “That was the worst day of my life. I was devastated, upset. I had to pay off all my credit cards and the Netflix bill. It took me a long time to realise what he’s like… he’s turned into a rat.”
Sandra also revealed to the publication that she had not seen Evra since January 2020, after he told her he was traveling to London for a “15-day work trip.” He then officially filed for a shock divorce that stunned her on March 4.
