Who is Hallie Jackson? Everything to know about the NBC anchor interviewing Kamala Harris

On Tuesday night, presidential hopeful Kamala Harris will sit down with NBC reporter Hallie Jackson for her first interview with the network since becoming the Democratic nominee.

Viewers from across the country will watch in anticipation as Jackson speaks with Vice President Harris at the US Naval Observatory in Washington, DC, just two weeks before Election Day.

In addition to a sit-down interview, the network also announced that senior Washington correspondent Jackson will have “exclusive access during Harris’ campaign stops in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin” on Monday.

With the interview airing Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM ET, many voters will be eagerly awaiting her performance, as DailyMail.com’s election model currently gives Donald Trump a 65.9 percent chance of winning.

But as both Republican and Democratic viewers watch on Tuesday, they may wonder more about Jackson, the NBC anchor who interviews Harris.

Who is Hallie Jackson?

Hallie Jackson, 40, is currently an anchor at NBC and a senior Washington correspondent for the network.

She is the Sunday anchor for NBC Nightly News and hosts her own show, Hallie Jackson NOW, on NBC’s streaming channel NBC News NOW.

Jackson was born in Ohio, but grew up in Yardley, Pennsylvania.

She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University in 2006, where she has met other alumni such as CNN journalist Wolf Blitzer and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

During a 2023 interview with Real woman onlineshe said she recently found a folder she created during freshman year that essentially contained her five-year plan.

“There was a section for media jobs, one for the advertising industry and a section for working on Capitol Hill,” she told the outlet at the time.

‘I even flirted with it [the idea of] the intelligence community, working for the CIA or FBI. But in the end, I was able to create my own path and find something that I love that also came with a responsibility factor: truth to power and all that.”

Jackson has a BA in political science from the prestigious university and was a member of the Phi Mu sorority while she was a student there, according to her biography in the Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts and Sciences Magazine.

Where has Hallie Jackson worked?

After graduating from Johns Hopkins University, Jackson began her career in journalism and landed her first job as a reporter at WBOC TV-16 in Salisbury, Maryland.

She then went on to work as a reporter and weekend anchor at WFSB-TV in Harford, Connecticut, for four years until 2012.

Jackson became a national correspondent for Hearst Television in Washington, D.C., where she worked for two years until 2014, when she landed a spot as a correspondent with NBC News in their Los Angeles bureau.

The Phi Beta Kappa graduate was later assigned to cover Senator Ted Cruz’s campaign during the 2016 presidential election as a reporter.

During this time, Jackson really made a name for herself as she covered the contentious and heated Republican primaries.

She interviewed several GOP candidates and election players along the way, such as Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Senator Marco Rubio, and mainly covered Trump’s campaign after Rubio was out.

The Phi Beta Kappa graduate was later assigned to cover Senator Ted Cruz’s campaign during the 2016 presidential election as a reporter.

Jackson also rose to fame as part of the network’s Road Warriors, which included Katy Tur, Kasie Hunt and Kristen Welker. Conde Nast traveler (CNT).

Of her time on the road, she told the outlet that she found “friendly people” everywhere.

“This may sound like a cop-out, but it’s true: everywhere,” she told CNT.

Jackson even moderated a February 2020 debate among Democratic nominees when she was nearly nine months pregnant — although Harris was not part of this group.

As a reporter, Jackson has been known to oppose certain members of the political community, such as former Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff, Marc Short, while they questioned him repeatedly about coronavirus protocols at the RNC.

Is Hallie Jackson married?

Hallie Jackson is currently dating her longtime partner, Frank Thorp, a producer and off-air reporter who covers Congress at NBC.

Thorp graduated from West Virginia University in 2007 and interned at The Today Show in 2004.

After graduating, he started his career as a Today Show researcher at NBC in 2007.

Most recently, in May, Jackson posted a sweet tribute to her partner on his 40th birthday and shared a photo of him blowing out candles on an intricately decorated cake.

Does Hallie Jackson have children?

Hallie Jackson has a three-year-old daughter, Monroe, whom she welcomed with partner Thorp in March 2020.

She announced her pregnancy on TV, during Sunday Today With Willie Geist, in the Sunday Mail segment.

Although Monroe was supposed to be born in April 2020, she was born three weeks early in March.

In March 2021, Jackson wrote an emotional essay for Today about what it was like to become a mother for the first time during the corona pandemic.

“Being a pregnant woman or new mother can be stressful enough: nothing is the same as it used to be,” Jackson wrote.

What is Jackson’s relationship with Kamala Harris?

Although Jackson has previously covered Harris’ campaign on NBC News, it appears she has not had a one-on-one conversation with her until now.

When she moderated the debate over the 2020 Democratic nominees, Harris was not present, having already dropped out of the race.
