She may have only gained fame with America’s Got Talent, but 17-year-old Putri Ariani has already had a successful musical career in her native Indonesia.
Born in Yogyakarta, Putri has been blind since she was three months old.
Despite the challenges she faced, she learned to play the piano, guitar and flute and began composing her own songs.
At just eight years old, she won Indonesia’s Got Talent in 2014 – and she’s only gotten stronger since then.

Putri’s mother experienced a series of health complications during pregnancy and the child was born prematurely at just six months.
But the talented performer didn’t let her blindness stop her from pursuing her dreams and has been singing since she was three years old.
In 2014 she won Indonesia’s Got Talent and fully devoted herself to her musical career.
She went on to do a series of other singing shows and slowly became a familiar face in her native country.
Putri became a finalist in 2016’s The Voice Kids Indonesia when he was 10 years old – and two years later sang the Song Of Victory at the Asian Para Games.
After the success of her TV show, she released nearly 30 songs on her iTunes during her teenage years, ranging from singles to live performances.
Her most successful song, Tak Mampu Lupa, which translates to Can’t Forget, was released in 2022 and has received over 11 million plays on Spotify to date.
She continues to surprise her fans by posting her original music, song covers, charity projects and travels to her nearly two million TikTok followers.

But Putri, who has also sung at weddings and appeared on TV shows, excels in more than just music – because when she’s not singing, she focuses her efforts on her philanthropic passions.

“I will never give up because I know I am invincible, not invisible. i am capable. I am powerful. I am brave. I am spectacular. I believe everyone has their own potential,” she said during a recent one TED talk.
Before starting her performance on AGT, she said: ‘My biggest challenge is that people look at me as a blind person, not as a musician.
“But when I sing, I feel like a superstar.

After Putri’s stunning performance on the show, all the judges stood up and applauded enthusiastically
Simon told her, “You’re only 17. You write songs, you have a great distinctive voice. You are, I think, one of the best singers we’ve ever had on our show’
My dream is to become the biggest diva in the world [American singer] Whitney Houston, and to win a Grammy Award. I hope I can get to Juilliard for my college degree.”
After her stunning performance, all the judges enthusiastically stood up and applauded.
Simon Cowell, 63, told her: ‘You’re only 17. You write songs, you have a great distinctive voice.
“You have a kind of glow about you. You are, I think, one of the best singers we’ve ever had on our show.’
After his moving remarks, he pressed the golden buzzer and Putri was automatically sent to the live semi-final.
