Who are UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s wife and children? Family of tycoon who was shot dead outside Manhattan hotel

Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was shot dead outside the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday.

He is survived by his wife, Paulette “Pauley” Thompson, 51, and their two children, who live in the family’s $1.5 million home in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

Mum-of-two Pauley is a practicing physiotherapist for Park Nicollet Health Services with over 20 years of experience.

She was born in Webster City, Iowa and received her Masters of Physical Therapy from the University of Iowa in 1999 – the same university from which her husband Brian graduated.

The mother has previously posted loving photos of herself and her two sons on family vacations, sharing how she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Pauley Thompson’s work biography reads: ‘I enjoy spending time with my two boys and taking them to all their activities. I also enjoy boating, spending time with family and friends, playing the piano, cycling and traveling.

‘I am committed and passionate about wellbeing and want to make a difference in the lives of other people.

‘I love helping people recover from their injuries and giving them a sense of empowerment over their health so they can live their lives to the fullest and get them back to their baseline level or, in some cases, their baseline surpass.’

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz offered his condolences to the family on X, addressing the horrific shooting.

“This is horrific news and a terrible loss for Minnesota businesses and health care. Minnesota sends our prayers to Brian’s family and the UnitedHealthcare team,” he said.

The shooting happened around 6:45 a.m. in Midtown, just hours before New Yorkers were set to gather nearby for the annual Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center.

Thompson, 50, was fatally shot in the chest in a possible targeted attack by a masked man, who then fled down 6th Avenue and is wanted by police.

The CEO was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

Thompson, who was named CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021 and reportedly makes $10 million a year, was scheduled to speak at an investor meeting at the Hilton Hotel shortly after the shooting.

According to a press release from United Healthcare on Tuesday, Thompson was scheduled to speak about the company’s hugely profitable financial outlook for 2025, including announcing expected revenues of more than $450 billion.

The suspect was described as a white male wearing a cream-colored jacket, a black face mask, black and white sneakers and a gray backpack.

Witnesses told the Post that the suspected shooter was waiting outside the hotel before the shooting and was not a guest at the hotel.

The gunman apparently knew which door Thompson would come out through and shot him from a few feet away.

The suspect, who is still on the run, ran away before jumping on a bicycle, witnesses said.
