The Chicago White Sox announced that relief pitcher Liam Hendriks will officially return to its active roster on Monday after battling cancer.
While being treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Hendriks missed both Spring Training and the first two months of the MLB season.
But since revealing he was cancer-free in early April, and reaffirming later that month that he was in remission, Hendriks is regaining his strength to try and return to the field.
“For the time being I have a clean health certificate,” said Hendriks earlier this month. “I’m currently in remission.”
“As soon as I found out about the regular treatment timelines, I thought, ‘OK, how can I beat it?'” he said in May. “It was those days on the couch, not being able to move much [after chemo]those were the days when you had to dig deep and find that positive mental attitude.”
