White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Friday accused Florida of sabotaging President Joe Biden’s plan to “release” migrants crossing the southern border.

“The way we see it is sabotage. It’s pure and simple. That’s how that reads to us,” said Jean-Pierre during her daily press briefing.

She declined to say whether she was specifically referring to U.S. District Judge T. Kent Wetherell, who made the ruling, or Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, whose administration filed the lawsuit.

DeSantis is expected to announce his bid for the Republican presidential nomination in the coming months and has criticized Biden for his handling of the situation at the border.

Migrants are released from a Customs and Border Patrol facility after being given an appointment by the US government to legally enter the country

As part of its plan to deal with the thousands of migrants gathering at the border for Thursday, when the pandemic-era Title 42 policy ended, the Biden administration planned to begin releasing migrants in the community with notices to report to an immigration office in 60 days.

Those ‘paroles’ would be activated when reception centers reach 125% capacity, or when authorities stop 7,000 migrants a day along the border.

But that plan was halted at 9:30 p.m. Thursday night when Wetherell, a Donald Trump appointee, agreed with the DeSantis administration’s argument, which had filed a lawsuit, that the Biden plan was nearly identical to another Biden policy. which had previously been declared null and void. in federal court.

As migrants continue to flood the country, the White House faces a legal story. The board plans to appeal.

“The Justice Department is going to challenge it,” Jean-Pierre announced.

“Republican elected officials continue to play games here,” she said. “They keep pulling political stunts and they don’t want to solve this problem. They want to use it again as a campaign tool for them.”

Wetherell blocked releases for two weeks and scheduled a May 19 hearing on whether to renew his order.
