It’s crucial that staff in GP practices have a voice, just as it is for staff in hospitals, says a whistleblower
As a whistleblower within general practice, I share the concerns that many of us have about confidentiality. I have faced retaliation and harmful treatment (NHS bosses who silenced whistleblowers to be sacked under government plans, November 24).
Both I and a colleague reported serious patient safety concerns and witnessed dishonesty. Unfortunately, we have experienced what is known in whistleblowing circles as the “playbook” of abuse, as authorities slowly gather the evidence needed to act on our reports. This abuse included the spread of false rumors, insults about our character and professional work, false referrals to regulatory authorities and harassment.
