Which US fast food chains top the list for the most locations in America?
America is known for its easily accessible fast food – with major national chains rife from coast to coast.
But which of the well-known names comes out on top when you go head-to-head for the number of stores in the US?
In a surprising first place overall, Subway has more stores across America than any other fast food restaurant – topping the list with 20,603.
The sandwich giant beat other similar chains into first place, with Arby’s second with 3,402 and Jimmy John’s.
Jersey Mike’s and the popular Panera Bread followed, with 2,494 and 2,125 respectively, as Firehouse Subs, Einstein Bros. Bagel and McAlister’s came up behind.

For pizza – an American staple – Hunt Brothers Pizza took the gold with 9,240, while Pizza Hut narrowly beat Domino’s into second place – with 6,862 to their 6,720
Starbucks ranks second overall and has solidified strongly as the country’s favorite liquor store with 15,966, according to figures compiled by StatsPanda.
Smoothie King was second with 1,133 while Tropical Smoothie Café had 1,013, and Tim Horton’s finished with 630.
McDonald’s secured last place on the podium, with 13,515 stores in the US – with Burger King being the closest burger chain to the family favorite with only 7,257 stores.
Wendy’s had the third most, with 5,995, and Sonic Drive-In and Jack In The Box have the next highest amount with 3,548 and 2,187, respectively.

Little Caesars has 4,169 and Papa John’s has 3,122 – nearly a third less in first place.
It’s closer among chicken chains, where the top three restaurants with the most locations are KFC (3,895), Popeye’s (2,957) and Chick-fil-a (2,928).
For Tex-Mex, Taco Bell is the certified winner with 8,088 stores to Chipotle’s 3,175 – with less popular Qdoba trailing behind with 735.

Dunkin’ Donuts reigns supreme as the king of donuts in the US with 9,412, while Krispy Kreme was left behind with just 358.
Panda Express dominates the Chinese chains nationwide, with 2,239 stores, while Dairy Queen tops the list for desserts with 4,316.
The numbers come as California cult favorite In-N-Out announced they are opening a regional headquarters in Tennessee.
It is the easternmost expansion to date for the company, whose current easternmost state is Mississippi.
The franchise’s rare move east comes after years of insistence that it shouldn’t, only expanding rapidly in 1992.
