Which Fallout radio station reigns supreme?

One of the hallmarks of modern Fallout games is that you can listen to a radio while traversing the Wasteland. The radio is of course full of sweet tunes to enjoy, but the radio hosts often take to the mic to share fun facts about the world-building and keep the player company along the way. Many of these songs appear in the Amazon Prime Fallout series — but which radio station is the best listen?

For obvious reasons, we only count radio stations with hosts and music, so no mysterious broadcasts or tragic monologues.

7. Agatha’s Station (Fallout 3)

Agatha comes from a long line of talented musicians and she wants to share her beautiful classical music with the entire Wasteland. She’s sweet – and it’s really fun that she yells at her friends, like the player, or a guy named Crazy Wolfgang. Unfortunately, her station is kind of a snore. Classic stations return Fallout 76 And Fallout 4which is nice for the cultured among us.

6. Enclave Radio (Fallout 3)

One of the first cues the player picks up is Enclave Radio, where President John Henry Eden has calming conversations with the Wasteland people. These long-winded speeches are placed between patriotic songs to get the blood flowing. This is one of the best examples of using radio to build the world, but the novelty wears off once you get through all of Eden’s speeches.

5. Appalachian Radio (Fallout 76)

The primary radio station of Fallout 76, Appalachian Radio is a good listen. “Mr. Sandman,” “Mister Five by Five” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads” are all absolute bangers. Appalachian Radio later got a host with the Wastelanders update, a polite young woman named Julie. It also features a lot of music from previous games, so it’s quite enjoyable, but it’s not groundbreaking.

4. Radio Free Utobitha (Fallout: New Vegas)

This station appears as Black Mountain Radio, but when you tune in, it turns out there’s a super mutant on the microphone. Tabitha, the tyrant in charge of Utobitha, takes on the role of a broken Mr. Handy robot named Rhonda and then fawningly interviews herself. You can get it just now the music of Radio Free Utobitha from Mojave Music Radio, if you’re a coward. Personally, I think Utobitha State is one of the funniest parts of the state New Vegasand I will listen to her thinly veiled propaganda for hours.

3. Radio New Vegas (Fallout: New Vegas)

Radio New Vegas is led by Mr. New Vegas, a presenter who is so cold and unwavering that he seems too good to be true. In a fun nod to real-world inspiration, Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton voices Mr. New Vegas, sharing both news and music. The playlist is just as sharp, with classics like ‘Blue Moon’, ‘Big Iron’, ‘Heartaches by the Number’ and ‘Something’s Gotta Give’. It would be nice to have more variety, but this is a solid choice.

2. Diamond City Radio (Fallout 4)

The Commonwealth is served by Diamond City Radio, which is hosted by the nervous and underrated Travis. There is heavy music on this channel, with lots of rockabilly music and upbeat tunes. A quest later in the game helps the player Travis, and he can grow into a real host with a show accent and real confidence. Alternatively, if the player kills Travis, a boy from Diamond City takes over and uses it as an excuse to advertise his purified water company. Diamond City Radio feels the most reactive of all the stations, and it’s a joy to turn a downtrodden young man into smooth-talking Travis “Lonely” Miles on the airwaves.

1. Galaxy News Radio (Fallout 3)

This is the channel that introduced the concept of radio channels to modern Fallout, and a major reason why the concept continues to stick around. The player begins listening to DJ Three Dog shortly after he emerges from their vault, and must eventually find him to continue the search for the player’s father. Three Dog is a laid-back guy – he even canonically inspired Travis Fallout 4 – but if the player kills him, he’s replaced by the considerably grumpier Margaret, who replaces his cheerful updates with complaints about her boss’s murder. Galaxy News Radio remains iconic and has helped set the standard for the rest of these stations.
