A new survey has revealed the top 10 rudest cities in Australia based on certain behavior – and according to residents, one state fared worse than the other.
Bundaberg in northern Queensland was crowned Australia’s rudest town, with a score of 5.81 out of 10.
The city was followed by Rockhampton in second and Brisbane in third, with the capital receiving a score of 5.58.

All three cities are in Queensland, as are Toowoomba (5th) and Cairns (10th), making for a poor performance by the sunny state. .
The damning results listed Adelaide as the fourth rudest city with a score of 5.56.
Coffs Harbour, on the north coast of NSW, was the only city in NSW to manage to make the cut with a score of 5.56.
Geelong and Melbourne were the only two Victorian cities to make the list, with the cities ranked seventh and eighth respectively.
Melbourne scored 5.44, while Canberra was the ninth rudest city according to the survey.
The country’s capital scored 5.42 out of 10.

More than 1,500 residents in 22 of Australia’s largest cities were surveyed by e-learning platform Preply between July 24 and July 28, 2023.
The research also found the most common forms of abusive behavior displayed by people.
Being absorbed by a phone in public was ranked as the rudest behavior of all, with Coffs Harbor locals deemed the most caught in the act.
The city scored 8.18 out of 10 for this act.
Other common forms of rudeness that respondents complained about included not allowing people to merge into traffic, being loud in public, and not waving when a driver of a car lets another driver in.
All three behaviors were most common in Cairns and Rockhampton. The cities scored 7.50 and 7.12 out of 10 respectively for each behaviour.
People talking on the phone in public were reported as the worst form of behavior among locals in all capital cities and major metropolitan areas.
Residents surveyed said people being absorbed by their phones in public was the rudest behavior that could be exhibited, with the behavior most commonly observed in Coffs Harbor on NSW’s north coast
Residents of the Sunshine Coast rated their city as the most polite in Australia, according to the survey
According to the findings, Newcastle in NSW is home to the fewest number of offenders in this category, with a score of 5.91 out of 10.
