Whian Whian drowning: Two-year-old girl dies after she is pulled unconscious from a backyard pool
A two-year-old girl has died after being pulled unconscious from a backyard swimming pool.
Emergency services were called to a property in Whian Whian, north of Lismore, in NSW, at around 2.20pm on Wednesday afternoon.
The child was resuscitated by family members before paramedics rushed her to Lismore Base Hospital.
Unfortunately, she could not be revived at the police to prepare a report for the coroner.
It marks the fifth drowning in New South Wales since Christmas Day, with 19 people drowning across Australia this summer.

A 35-year-old man drowned on Tuesday at the newly opened Penrith Beach, about 66km from Sydney, while paddle boarding outside the patrol zone.
A major search was launched, involving PolAir divers and police, with rescue crews making the grim discovery at around 6.15pm.
A 19-year-old NSW man remains missing after he got caught in rough surf to rescue his two younger brothers at Congo Beach, near Moruya, on Tuesday afternoon.
He managed to save one of his brothers, while the other pulled himself out of the water.
A land, air and sea search resumed on Thursday after emergency services were unable to locate the teenager on Wednesday.
Two men died on Central Coast beaches on Monday.
A man, believed to be in his 80s, was pulled from the waters near Copacabana beach, while a surfer was recovered near Umina beach.
