Where’s Molly Meldrum? TV legend sets tongues wagging after the Hey Hey It’s Saturday star fails to appear at friend John Blackman’s funeral

Molly Meldrum has voiced his concerns after failing to show up at the funeral of friend and Hey Hey It’s Saturday co-star John Blackman this weekend.

The Australian music legend, who has struggled with health issues in recent years, was nowhere to be seen as family, friends and industry luminaries gathered to say goodbye to Blackman on Sunday.

Cecile Blackman, his devoted wife, was joined by a string of A-list supporters including Eddie Maguire, Daryl Somers, Wilbur Wilde, Livinia Nixon, Glenn Robbins, Frankie J Holden, Rhonda Burchmore and Red Symons.

Meldrum did not appear to be present and was not seen among the mourners who filed into the room.

Legendary Hey Hey It’s Saturday star Blackman died of a heart attack at his home on June 4 at the age of 76.

The veteran broadcaster had undergone minor surgery the day before to have two skin cancers removed.

John’s battle with health issues was ongoing. In 2018, he had his jaw removed during a grueling battle with cancer, and in 2022 he underwent brain surgery.

Meldrum has also had quite a few health problems in recent years and occasionally exhibits strange behavior.

In March last year, Molly made headlines for exposing himself and appearing to urinate on the floor at a Rod Stewart concert in Melbourne.

A video obtained by Ny Breaking Australia shows the 81-year-old TV star exposing his genitals at the end of the pop singer’s set at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.

The former Countdown star appeared to urinate on the floor as he looked towards the stage and wore his signature Stetson cowboy hat.

The alarming episode was the latest in a series of increasingly bizarre antics by Meldrum, who was a mainstay on Australian TV for decades and friends with some of the biggest names in music.

Entertainment commentator Peter Ford raised concerns that the TV legend has not received adequate supervision since he fell from a ladder and suffered a head injury in 2011.

‘His judgment is impaired, that is a fact. I don’t make excuses for bad behavior,” he told 2GB at the time.

Radio presenter Ben Fordham sympathized with the TV star and admitted Meldrum faced ‘challenges’.

“Someone close to Molly needs to step in and say, ‘Hey, Molly. We need to take care of you, buddy,'” he said.

‘Sometimes it’s hard when you’re dealing with someone as famous as Molly Meldrum, they’re used to getting their way.

“But someone close to him has to say, ‘Molly, we have to keep you home.’

In January last year, Meldrum caused a stir after dropping his pants during his old friend Sir Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour at Melbourne’s AAMI Park.

During his final act, the I’m Still Standing hitmaker brought Meldrum on stage for a rendition of The B**** Is Back.

Once on the platform, Meldrum turned around and flashed his derriere in front of the 30,000-strong crowd, sending Sir Elton’s fans online into a frenzy.

Ford raised further concerns about Meldrum’s condition at the time.

“I’m not a good friend of Molly’s, but I think everyone who knows him is concerned and everyone wants Molly to be happy and safe and everyone wants his legacy to stay intact,” he said. news.com.au.
