Foundationsthe next expansion for Magic: The Gathering, arrives on November 15 and aims to provide a fun, accessible experience for all playing levels. The expansion draws from a variety of aesthetics and reintroduces some of the game’s most famous cards, which will be legal in all standard formats until 2029.
While Foundations is launching with a few new products aimed at bringing new players on board. Veterans looking to expand their collection can find some great additions in the typical array of booster boxes and bundles. We’ve detailed below all the products available in this expansion and where you can pre-order them.
The Starter Collection is an introductory set that is unique to Foundations which is intended as a guided tutorial for building your own decks. The $60 Starter Collection includes a modest set of 387 cards, in addition to three Play Boosters, 13 double-sided tokens, a life counter with click wheel, and a card storage box. Of the 387 cards in this set, 36 are traditional foil cards, with six borderless Lands and ten fully arty Lands.
If you’re looking to add some of these relaunched cards to your collection, or just want a product that can introduce a new player to deckbuilding concepts, then the Foundations The Starter Collection can currently be reserved via Amazon for $57.66 or Best buy for $59.99.
There is an introductory box in the expansion. It’s called the Foundations Beginner box and it is specifically designed to teach new players the basics Magic: the meeting. This generous $30.99 box set includes a pair of 20-card decks, which frame a guided tutorial experience, in addition to eight Jumpstart packs, which create a fixed selection of 160 cards to customize each deck. The Beginner Box also includes a few play mats and Spindown life counters.
While the cards in the Beginner Box may not use the full lexicon of MTG keywords, players will still be introduced to concepts like tokens and counters, in addition to some of the more basic concepts experienced in MTG. Right now, there’s no better way to get someone who knows nothing about MTG to play the game with confidence in about 20 minutes.
For the more seasoned players Foundations is still launching in a pre-order bundle format Amazon for $42.70, or from Best buy for $49.99. The Foundations The bundle includes nine Play Booster Packs, 20 foil and 20 non-foil Land cards, in addition to a Spindown life counter and a card storage box. The distribution of maps included in the Foundations Bundle doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll have a playable deck, but it’s still the fastest way to expand your library with cards from the new set, while also getting some exclusive accessories.
Similar to previous MTG expansions, Foundations is launched with three different flavors of Booster Packs. The simplest version, the Jumpstart Booster, contains 20 cards in each pack. Each pack includes one card with anime-inspired art, as well as at least one card of rare quality or higher. Jumpstart Boosters can be pre-ordered in a box of 24 packs Amazon for $98.99.
Moving up the list, we have Play Boosters. These 14-card packs each contain a minimum of 1 traditional foil card, with the option of up to four cards of rare quality or better. Play boosters also have the chance to draw Mythic Rare cards with alt-frame art treatments. Play Boosters can be pre-ordered in boxes of 36 packs for €136.79 Amazon or $174.99 from Best Buy.
