The Night Song is one of the first side quests you can play Baldur's Gate 3and it covers almost the entire game, with steps to complete in act 1, act 2, and act 3.
In this Baldur's Gate 3 guide, we'll tell you how to pick up the Nightsong mission in act 1 and how to locate the Nightsong once your trail goes cold in the Dark.
How to start the quest 'Find the Nightsong' in BG3 act 1
The Emerald green forest is one of your first big stops Baldur's Gate 3and the first place you can call a quasi-home in the game.
When you first arrive, you find yourself standing next to a gang of goobers led by a named human Aradin. This guy is a real jerk and gets into a fight with him Zevorleader of the Tieflings.
Once you've resolved their fight, head to the back of the Saints in the Emerald Grove and you will see Aradin hanging out at a table with his friends.
If you talk to him, he will tell you about his expedition to find The Nightsong. This will give you the quest “Find the Nightsong”. Set a timer; you'll have about 80 to 100 hours of playtime before you finally put this quest to bed.
Where can you find the Night Song in BG3 act 2
The first part of this quest is filled with mystery and talk of temples, but all you really have to do is go inside. Goblin camp and make your way to the Selunite outpost below. Once there, you can find some information about the Nightsong, which makes the path “go cold in the Underdark.”
Once your quest says it's gone cold, you're now free to complete literally any other content in act 1 and act 2 that you want.
At the very end of act 2 you go to the Shar's glove — which you need to do for the main mission anyway — and continue until you get a pop-up warning you about one point of no return. Before you continue, complete anything else in your mission log that you consider important and make sure you add it Shadowheart to your party, otherwise she will eventually leave the group. Once you're done, enter the pool so you can teleport to Shadowfell and Nightsong's prison.
(Ed. remark: The rest of this guide contains some major spoilers for Baldur's Gate 3.)
Surprise! The Nightsong is not, in fact, a mysterious artifact, but a named Aasimar woman Lady Aylin.
Shortly after meeting Dame Aylin, you're forced to make a choice that will determine her fate (basically, whether she lives or dies). In the third part of the Nightsong mission you have to choose again whether to kill the Nightsong or not. You can read more about the outcomes of each choice in our guide, which details whether you should save or kill the Nightsong.
