Pete Doherty stormed the charts in the early 1990s with his band The Libertines.
The musician formed the band with Carl Barât in London in 1997, but it was not until 2002, with the release of their debut studio album Up the Bracket, that they achieved widespread success.
Lead singer Pete left the group in 2004 but reformed in 2010 and headlined the Reading and Leeds festivals that year.
The rockers had another reunion performance in London’s Hyde Park in 2014 and toured in 2016.
And while Pete may have been known for living in London during his band’s heyday, he now lives a much quieter life in the French countryside.

Where is Pete Doherty now?
Pete continues to perform with The Libertines to this day and the band released a celebratory version of their debut album, Up the Bracket: 20th Anniversary, on October 21, 2022.
While the group last toured in 2022, their previous reunion performances didn’t go as smoothly.
They had a reunion gig in London’s Hyde Park in 2014 and toured the UK in 2016.
However, Pete later quit a show at Camden’s Electric Ballroom after suffering a panic attack.
Although the band is still together, they currently have no live events listed on their website.
Pete has now left Britain for rural France where he lives with his wife Katia de Vidas, who is also his Puta Madres bandmate.

Why did Peter Doherty leave The Libertines?
After the release of their debut album in 2002, Pete’s increasing drug problems caused him to become estranged from The Libertines.
Pete later sought treatment for his drug addictions at an alternative detox center called Wat Tham Krabok, a temple in Thailand known for helping crack and heroin users.
However, he left after three days and returned to Britain, prompting The Libertines to cancel their appearances at the Isle of Wight and Glastonbury festivals.
While post-production was taking place for the band’s second studio album in 2004, Pete was again asked to leave the band.
The other band members claimed that Pete’s ongoing drug problems had caused them to ask him to leave, but they insisted that they would take him back once he resolved his issues.
They later reformed in 2010.

In 2005, he even drew a portrait of himself and Kate using colored pencils and his own blood.
Pete also famously scribbled ‘I love Kate 4 eva’ on the windscreen of his Jaguar after leaving court following a drug-related offense.
The couple split in 2007 after a series of fiery arguments.
Pete previously revealed that there “wasn’t really one specific incident that caused them to break up,” saying that “our worlds weren’t really compatible in the end.”
Jailed: In 2003, Pete was jailed for burglarizing his bandmate Carl Barât’s flat, with the pair initially arguing over the incident but later making up while Pete was in prison (pictured in July 2022)

The couple married at the Domaine Saint Clair hotel in the French city of Etretat – their home for the past three years – with The Libertines and the couple’s band Puta Madres providing the music.
Pete, who has been off heroin for three and a half years, has settled in France with his Puta Madres bandmate Katia after leaving his bad-boy lifestyle behind.
