Wizards of the Coast is publishing a revised set of the core trio of 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks. The 2024 version of the Players Manual (PHB) is now available, while the Monster Manual (MM) and the Guide for Dungeon Masters (DMG) can also be pre-ordered ahead of the launch in February and November respectively.
The bulk of the changes in the revised rulebooks have been incorporated into the PHB, which features a lighter rules introduction and relegates the crunchy mechanics to a rules glossary. Character creation has also been simplified, with rules for creating a character of any starting level, and the 12 starting classes have been expanded to 48 subclasses (the most subclasses in a single 5th edition book). Other changes include a massive list of redesigned spells and feats, and new rules for a robust crafting system. The 2024 PHB will be available to purchase in physical size for $49.99, while the digital option is available for $29.99.
The DMG has also been redesigned to help DMs quickly access relevant information during sessions, along with providing more examples of NPCs, how to plan encounters, and other ways to streamline preparations for a new campaign. Also, in case new players aren’t familiar with concepts like “Magic Missile” or “Mordenkainen,” the new DMG provides a lore glossary to provide helpful explanations. The physically version of the 2024 DMG launches on November 12th and is currently available for pre-order for $49.99, while the digital version is available for pre-order for $29.99.
The revised MM won’t be a comprehensive collection of all D&D beasts, but it will be the largest single collection Monster Manual ever published, with over 500 samples and 75 completely new additions. The new Monster Manual won’t be available until February 18th, but the price of $29.99 digital version and $49.99 physically versions can now be pre-ordered.
Other gameplay-relevant stats from the 5th Edition ruleset have been left untouched. This means that your existing stack of sourcebooks, campaigns, and other errata will still be relevant in the current standard. A pre-order bundle with physically versions of all three revised rulebooks are currently available for $149.97, while the digital bundle is available for $89.97.
