‘I once wrote ‘my condoms’ instead of my condolences in a family group’: WhatsApp users reveal their messaging horror stories as they delight in the launch of the new editing tool

There’s nothing more embarrassing than firing off a quick message to WhatsApp only to find out later that it contains a horrible typo.

Fortunately, WhatsApp has us covered, after launching a new Edit button.

The button allows you to edit your messages up to 15 minutes after sending, without the recipient needing to see the edit history.

Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg posted about the new feature on his Facebook page, writing, “You can now edit your WhatsApp messages for up to 15 minutes after they’re sent!”

In response, several appreciative fans have revealed their message horror stories, including one that accidentally sent their supervisor a “Good morning Madman” message.

How to use the editing tool

To use the new tool, just long-press on a sent message and choose “Edit” from the menu.

Edited posts will show “edited” next to them, letting your friends know about the correction, even though they won’t be able to see the edit history.

The comments on Zuckerberg’s post are full of people joking about the embarrassing mistakes they made on WhatsApp.

“Once I texted my supervisor ‘Good morning Madman’ instead of Good morning Madam, and I didn’t realize it in time. She sent me a screenshot 10 days later! This is helpful…’ one user wrote.

“Now you bring this after I sent my friend ‘Ben’ instead of ‘bae’ and he left me,” added another, while one joked, “I once wrote ‘my condoms’ instead of my condolences in a family group. ‘

And one quipped, “I remember texting my ex this…”honey, i need a breakup now” instead of “honey, i need breakfast.” And that was the end of the relationship.’

WhatsApp announced the new editing tool in a blog post this week.

“From correcting a simple spelling mistake to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to give you more control over your chats,” the post read.

The editing tool is available to users worldwide and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.
