- Until now, users had to use third-party apps to create their own stickers
- Now WhatsApp has added the ability to create them within its app
From the ‘change my mind man’ to the ‘success kid’, memes have been a staple of many of our messages for years.
Now you can make your own thanks to WhatsApp’s latest update.
The messaging app has added the ability to create, edit and share your own stickers without having to leave the app.
“To spice up your chats, bring a group joke to life or send the right meme for that moment, you can now quickly and creatively turn your own photos into stickers,” WhatsApp said.
Here’s how to try out the fun new feature for yourself.
WhatsApp has added the ability to create, edit and share your own stickers without having to leave the app
WhatsApp first introduced Stickers in 2018, initially with its own sticker packs, before adding the ability to upload third-party sticker packs.
However, until now, users have had to rely on third-party apps to create their own stickers.
Now WhatsApp cuts out the middleman, with the ability to create stickers directly in the app.
‘You can now create stickers in the app, instead of having to drag and drop them from your photo gallery, or use unofficial third-party apps, while benefiting from the security of WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption ‘, said the Meta. app explained in a blog post.
To create a sticker from an image, simply open the WhatsApp app on your iPhone and open the conversation you want to send the sticker to.
Open your sticker drawer by selecting the sticker icon to the right of the text box.
Select ‘create sticker’ and choose an image from your photo gallery.
“To spice up your chats, bring a group joke to life or send the right meme for that moment, you can now quickly and creatively turn your own photos into stickers,” WhatsApp said.
At this point you will be given the option to customize your sticker, with several editing tools available including cropping, text, drawing and the ability to overlay other stickers.
When you’re happy with your creation, tap Send.
“Once sent, the sticker will be automatically saved to the sticker tray so you can resend it at any time,” WhatsApp said.
If your sticker doesn’t sell, you’ll be happy to know that you can edit it before sending it.
To edit an existing sticker, open your sticker drawer again and long-press on the sticker you want to edit.
Select ‘edit sticker’ and you will have the chance to adjust it before resending.
Sticker Maker is already available on WhatsApp Web and will be rolled out on iOS 17+ in the coming days.
While people using older iOS versions can edit existing stickers, they currently cannot create new ones.
MailOnline has contacted WhatsApp for information on when the tool will be available on Android.
