- These are bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and slope code
There’s nothing more frustrating than coming home from the store and realizing you’ve forgotten an essential ingredient.
But with the new text formats in WhatsApp, there is no longer an excuse to forget your shopping list.
Today, the popular messaging app launched four new text formats to make it easier for users to communicate.
These are the bulleted list, the numbered list, the block quote, and the slope code.
Here’s how to try them out for yourself.
WhatsApp has launched four new text formats to make it easier for users to communicate
There’s no excuse to forget your shopping list as WhatsApp launches four new text formats, including bulleted lists
Starting today, WhatsApp users on Android, iOS, Web, and Mac desktops will have access to a new set of options to customize their messages.
WhatsApp says the new formats will “help save time and help people communicate more effectively through their messages, especially in group chats.”
These new options will also be available to channel managers to enable clearer communications.
These new options are in addition to the bold, italic, strikethrough, and monospace options already available.
Each of the four new formats has a specific shortcut that users include in their messages.
To use the Bulleted List, which adds bullet points to lists or to highlight important points, simply add a ‘-‘ followed by a space before typing your message.
For example, you can write: – Message
Add this before any part of the message you want to make a bullet point so you can create a longer multi-point list.
To create a numbered list the process is much the same: just type the number you want to use, followed by a period and then a space, for example: 1. Message
Repeat for as many steps as you want to include for longer numbered lists.
WhatsApp says you can use up to two numbers, so lists with up to 99 numbered points are now possible,
To highlight or make a specific piece of text more noticeable within the message you can use a ‘Block Quote’.
To use this format, type the ‘>’ symbol followed by a space before your message. For example: > Message.
Finally, to use the ‘Incline Code’ format, which WhatsApp says is intended to distinguish specific information, you’ll need to add punctuation marks before and after your message.
Place a ‘symbol’ on either side of the text you want to format, for example: ‘Message’.
This works in a similar way to WhatsApp’s previous formatting options, all of which require symbols to enclose the formatted text.
