Chris Hemsworth’s new film Furiosa has had a disappointing debut at the box office.
Furiosa – starring Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character – narrowly defeated The Garfield Movie and won last weekend.
It topped the US box office with an estimated $25.5 million, followed by The Garfield Movie with $24.8 million.
According to Screen RantFuriosa was not as successful as expected due to the wait time between this sequel and the previous one.
Fans have had to wait almost a decade since Mad Max: Fury Road was released in 2015.

Still, the strong critical reception and word of mouth from its various premieres still failed to pave the way for Furiosa to succeed at the box office.

Furiosa is a prequel to the 2015 blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road, with Anya playing a younger version of the title character, first played by Charlize Theron.
It takes place over a period of sixteen years in Furiosa’s life, years after a global catastrophe that has turned Australia into a radioactive wasteland.
The film follows Furiosa from the moment she was just 10 years old (Alyla Brown) and was kidnapped by Dr. Dementus (Hemsworth), leader of the Biker Horde.
The film also stars Tom Burke as Praetorian Jack, Lachy Hulme as Immortan Joe and Angus Sampson as the Organic Mechanic.
