What to inscribe on the Holy Cedar Tablet in Diablo 4?

At the end of the prologue in Diablo 4come across a quest named “Access ritual‘just as you try to enter Kyovashad – the capital of the Fractured Peaks region – with Lorath. The guard will stop you if you try to go through the gate and tell you to first write your sin on a Holy Cedar Tablet and burn it away.

Does your choice matter? Which one should you choose? Let’s talk about it in this one Diablo 4 guide.

Complete the Rite of Passage quest

During this quest, Lorath plays the role of a grumpy old man and grumbles enough that he gets through without penance. You, on the other hand, must at least pretend to repent to move forward in the story.

Follow the quest marker to the chest near the fire and interact with it. The game prompts you to select one of the following options:

  • To enrol “Fear” in the woods
  • To enrol “Fury” in the woods
  • To enrol “Pride” in the woods
  • To enrol “Greed” in the woods
  • To enrol Nothing but scribbles in the wood

If you want to keep playing Diablo 4you must select one of these options and burn your sin (or your nothing).

Does the inscription on the Holy Cedar Tablet matter in Diablo 4?

Your Holy Cedar Tablet choice does not matter – as far as we’ve been able to tell – and is just a taste to show the industrious nature of the Cathedral of Light. It’s always possible that Blizzard could do something with the choice later (since everyone has to do it at some point), but it’s unlikely as you can skip the campaign on subsequent playthroughs, and thus the Holy Cedar Tablet ceremony.

Choose which option you want. Perhaps choose the sin you most identify with, or play the sin your character suffers from. Or stick a fat middle finger to the Cathedral of Light and don’t scribble anything. The choice is yours and it is meaningless to anyone but you. This is a rare moment in life – a decision without consequences – so enjoy it. Or not!
