What the railway staff shortage means for a driver’s life
A 38-year-old locomotive pilot from Mumbai has mixed feelings about the festival season, which begins with Raksha Bandhan next month. He is happy that his sister is flying in from Jabalpur, but disappointed that he has to work on the day of the festival.
“My sister’s husband lost his job during Covid, so my sister had to go to work. They saved some money to visit us in Mumbai and they will stay till Ganesh Chaturthi. But like several other loco pilots, I am working on Raksha Bandhan day,” he says.
